Clearing the VSC TRAC and VSC OFF lights for free
:flock:New guy post disclaimer: I'm new, and I may catch some flack for posting this, but it worked for me 5 days ago so I thought I'd share.
Here's what I've learned about the VSC TRAC and VSC OFF lights. I bought an 03 4Runner last week. Drove it 2.5 hours home and it ran like a sewing machine. Exited off to my road, and the Engine light came on, and started missing bad. Naturally, the next morning I plugged up my cheap scan tool, and found it was a cylinder 6 misfire. But the kicker is that the VSC lights both came on after that. Come to find out, some cheap (and some Auto Zone/Advance) readers will cause the VSC lights to come on. So odds are, your mechanic used a scan tool to read or clear some OBD codes. Found a fix on YouTube that involved 2 paperclips and some specific ignition key turns.
Now, normally, I would never stick paperclips in my OBDII plug, but after reading all the positive comments about how it worked, I figured why not. It did work like a charm, and I tested their function post-fix by disengaging the front drive with the switch. When I did, the VSC light came on as expected, then went out when I re-engaged the front drive wheels.
Today is day 5 and still no VSC lights. Not sure how accurate this part here is, but I read that the first part of the paperclip trick resets the zero point calibration, and the second part of it calibrates it. Again, I can't confirm that to be true, but a couple of videos mentioned it.

My VSC lights and Engine light usually come ON in the Winter time here in Colorado. I don't like the System being "turned off" especially when there's Snow and Ice on the roads. They used to go OFF when there were some Warmer days (above 40F). Also, the stupid "TPMS" system does the same F-ing thing. That is supposed to light up when the tire pressure is 25% BELOW ~32PSI (all tires-including the spare!) which is like 9PSI too low. Then when it Warms up outside the freakin light goes out! Obviously Toyota's On-Board Computer system can't be relied upon in the Winter months. I even checked the sensor wire connections for the Traction control and it looked fine. At the start of winter the VSC system was working, and then after prolonged Antarctic temperatures the lights have been ON and the System not working for over a month now. Maybe I need to pour Hot Chocolate into the Computer?
I have had the tire pressure light come on in winter here in CO. No biggie. But never had all 4 lights come on and they weren't on when I dropped it off.
I also came to this conclusion as well. Twice now for me and it seems to be an issue with cold and snow. Mine has now been off 2 days again and the weather has been warmer of late.
guess it leads back to what i was saying in a sense a short. thats why i always disconnect the battery now

Sure enough! Now that we have had 2 days of Warm temps, the Lights went out this morning on the way to work! So basically, I can't depend on this system functioning when I need it...(Winter, Snow...Ice). Is this stupid computer outside or inside the Truck?
