I wouldn't pay more than $500 for those, $900 is WAY to much. You can get the tires new for about $700. At the most $600, only because of the rims.

I agree. The finish on those rims is shot...more than a "little chipping". If you like the rims you have, just buy the tires. You can get brand new with full replacement certificates for $864 from discounttiredirect.com. And that comes with free mount, and rotation and balance for the life of the tire.

Thanks for all the input. I really wasn't seeing more than $600 at the most in them given the condition of the rims. Plus, who knows what damage they received in the wreck.

If they are still on CL in three weeks, I may go by and see if the seller bites for $400.

Check out the kenda klever mud terrain. My buddy has some on his tacoma and they are animals on and off road. He just bought his second set. Got a little over 65k miles on the first set with normal rotation intervals. He has the 265 75 16 and i believe they make a 285 75 16. Low road noise and almost no vibration like you normally get out of mudders. He payed 675 installed for a set of four. Damn fine tire and price in my book. My next set will be them. They look awesome from the side to boot.

If you go and look at them, the first thing I would check is the date code. Anything over 5 years old, I wouldn't buy just due to age.

His price is overly optimistic IMO, even if the tires aren't old.

Used tires, no matter how low the miles have less than 70% value.

I wouldn't pay more than 70% even if they were a month old and he had the receipt.

Does this seller have the receipt? Doubtful.....

I had a buddy in Charleston go and look at these today. Two of the rims may be good as a boat anchor and that is it. Tires are 14 months old, the guy had the receipt from Dis Tire. His lowest price was $800.

Does that mean the receipt is from 14 months ago, or the date code on the tire sidewall is from 14 months ago?

When the tires were purchased is irrelevant. It's the date of manufacture that matters.

I recall seeing a "new" motorcycle tire at a dealer years ago, that was still sitting in the rack waiting to be sold as "new".

The date of manufacture for the tire was 9 years prior. :wow:

From the moment a tire comes out of the mold, it starts to slowly deteriorate. Any tire over 5 years old, should be inspected closely and frequently for signs that the tire has deteriorated (Ie: dry rot, bulges, splits, etc.) to the point of imminent failure.

I wouldn't run a tire over 8 years old, on anything that sees pavement and highway speeds.

Thanks 02se. I will have to talk with him again and see. I am guessing Nitto has their date of manufacture stamped somewhere on the tire.

Every tire by law has to have the date of manufacture on the sidewall.
