Brake pad brand recommendations

Would you guys use slotted rotors or OEM?

I am getting ready to service my brakes and have been searching for slotted rotors for a good price. If you know of a place please point me in the right direction.

I have used some ceramic semi metallic and they were good. Also remember you get what you pay for.

What does slotted/drilled rotor have to do with type of brakes???

Any type of brake pad (ceramic, organic, semi-metallic) can be used on any type of rotor (slotted, drilled, solid, vented).

I replaced my mom's front pads today (97 4Runner limited) with OEM which stopped the rubbing/wear sound I was hearing. I also purchased OEM shoes for the back but I have no experience working with drums. Is there a good DIY you can point me to and any special tools I would need?

(Yes I did a search. Found a pretty good explanation for the pads but nothing about the shoes.)

Just as a FYI, Autozone has semi-metallic pads ranging from $14.99 to $45.99, and ceramic from $37.99 to $99.99.

Just out of curiosity how many miles are on your 4runner?

go ceramic.


If you want to save $$$
go semi-metallic.


If you love brake dust
go organic


As for stopping distance - they are all about the same.. As I recall semi-metallic has the best stop power only winning by a few inches shorter.

so which rotors do you guys recommend?? My stock ones are warped and vibrate, Im gonna get the Carquest Gold Ceramics... just curious as to which rotors to get.??

shouold get you started. was done on an 88 but should be similar enough to get it done
