brake pad going so fast?

Since you said no one changes pads at 7-8k, I brought up the LC. I had a 93 and a 93 LC. The pads will wear out at 10,000 miles on a good stretch. Around town pretty hard driving, they will be gone at 8000 miles. they undersize the brakes on that vehicle. I am thinking they did the same on the 5 gen.

Doubtful, the 5th gens have the "Big Brake" kit from the 4th Gen Sport Editions if I remember correctly, so if anything the brakes should be a little bit beefier than it needs.

IDK Op , I just bought the Akebono ceramic pads on amazon & I know not correct but just replaced them with(front pads only) . Horrible dust from previous pads & have much better bite now and not so studderery (made up word) ? And akebono are used as oem yes ! They usually like to turn rotors but I have the slotted ones (also previous owner).

Now I'm confused. Both the rear disc pads and the parking shoes are wearing excessively?
I've never adjusted the parking brake cable with drums in disc, who doesn't have self-adjusting brake shoes in this day and age?

So you started at 1/2" (12.7mm), you're down to 3/16" (4.8mm). That's still over 30% left I'd tell your guy to call me when they're at 2mm.

Well, I am telling you that it slips with parking brakes are press to the max. I am no math teacher, since I did not measure it, its around 3/16". I know I am damn accurate to within 1/16" eyeballing something. I will write this for you again, The parking brakes needed to be adjusted and the cable is maxed out. The rear disc brake pads have about 20% left, for a guy like me that can't do math, 30% for you smart folks (1/16+/-" difference). They were ALL changed out about 5000 miles ago. 2mm is about 1/8" so I am after the cause for excessive wear. If you have an idea, please do tell. Self adjustment??? I slammed on the brakes going backwards too many times to get it to set still without success(thinking they should work like the old drum brakes system). Again, if you got something, please tell.

Only way to wear out the parking brake shoes is to drive with the parking brake on, or miss adjusted.

the more I think about it, its miss adjustment, but it will wear to a certain point and it will quit, but it should stop the truck on a hill?

What's IDK? I have not had a chance to look at the fronts, I hope they are OK. Do you like the slotted rotors? Any of you guys have them and does it make a difference in brake feel? I dislike the pedal feel on my truck. its a 2010 limited with 40k on it. I am thinking about replacing brake lines with braided SS lines to get a slightly positive feel. OEM lines are already braided, so I am just wasting my money? My other vehicles all have very positive, solid brake feel, maybe I am asking for too much. Still, I like to chase down the cause of the excessive wear.

Sorry I don't know(IDK) , The slotted came with but not sure they do much on a 4r , maybe a race car ? Ya but my rears have almost 75% left . But I bought it with 50k on it so not sure when they were changed but they were not wearing very well on the front . I would agree with possible stuck caliper on rear or problem with E-brake .

I will know when I bring it in sometime in the next couple of months. Thanks for the tip on the rotors. I had them on my track car (played with that for a couple of years), since I was such bad driver, I really can't tell the difference coming from cross drilled rotors. On the track, there's never enough brakes and time or tires and power.

the park brake on this is an internally drum style. its inside the rotor hat. there is no auto/self adjustment for that. manual only. they are basically independent from the normal brakes.

not if its out of adjustment.
