Brake Pedal Click

Does anybody ever hear a clicking noise when the press the brake pedal? I recently bought 08' limited and it has clicked the entire time....I brought it up when I test drove it and dealership said it is normal, I drove 4hrs to pick up the vehicle so I just went along with it. It's starting to bothering me...

I get strange pulses once in a while, it does make a noise; in-fact I usually just double pump the breaks and it tightens up... the weird feeling goes away. frequency is something like 1 in every 10 medium-Heavy stops...

I have noticed that it makes a clicking "like abs when it first kicks in" there is an electronic pulse and sound...its not the master cylinder pressurizing either but again a quick double pump clears it up, I have purged the brake lines but blame the mushy feeling on old rubber tubes. I will be switching to stainless steal lines to see if it makes any difference.

If that is affecting braking performance and you need to double pump the brakes, there is something wrong with the system. When you purged the brake lines did you use a scantool to engage the ABS system? You can't just do a regular pump up and bleed procedure with the Hydraboost unit.

Also, most modern brake lines have a steel mesh sleeve or kevlar sleeve molded into the rubber, the braking presssures in today's cars is a little more than the old days and you don't see the ballooning of rubber lines as badly as you did back then.

It also may signal the solenoid on the transmission to let it shift out of park. On some cars you may feel it disengaging when holding the shifter (haven't noticed this on the 4runner).

It's not when I am shifting into drive...it clicks when I hit the brakes while I am driving...

Mine clicks only when backing up and I hit the breaks. I feel nothing in the pedal just hear a metal on metal click.

I have that too!!! What is that clicking? It's only really noticeable when my windows are down.

I have the same noise when backing and braking. It seems to me the calipers/pads are shifting as if the bolts are loose. The bolts are not loose on mine. Something is shifting and settling to a metal on metal cling/click.

The clicking the OP is asking about sounds like the brake light switch or relay.

Mine clicks when I first start it in the morning, when I'm parked on an incline with the nose down. Sounds like a faint jackhammer noise coming from the brake pedal. After I start driving, it goes away. I wonder if I can make the noise happen in front a Toyota tech because it is still under warranty.

I get the same noise. It sounds like you take a metal bucket, lift its handle up and then just drop the handle so it hits the bucket.
Happens all the time when the car has been parked for some time, I back up (say from the parking lot) and push the brake. Or if the car has been stationary on the slope and I go in "D" and accelerate.

Just trying to revive the topic to see if the culprit was found..

I experience and deal with the same thing!! along with squeaky brakes. Good to hear its not just my car.

I usually hear the clicking sound when I'm reversing and then I step on the brake.

My wife was asking me about this. I didn't notice it before, but as we back out of our garage and apply the brakes we hear that same noise. I just thought it was the brakes adjusting themselves.

seems to me most of you guys are hearing the pads moving inside the calipers its not unsafe but annoying. your either missing the rattle clips or theyve broken. pull the brakes apart and see if there is a wire w shaped clip on the outside of the pads if there is not replace it and lube everything: the pins, the caliper where the end of the pads touch it, and the back sides of the pads where the caliper pistons push on the pads, also only use oem pads aftermarket have a higher likelyhood of making noise and uneven premature wear. most of all lube those pins and pads

Probably does need to be lubed. It has been a few miles since I replaced the brakes. I don't think it is the "W" clip spring. It is a loud rattling sound when you go over bumps and it is not doing that.
