brake problems 03 SR5

I'm no tech but when panic braking the wheels don't lock up even in snow and rain. The ABS don't even kick in there not even a slid mark on the road

What does happen is the 4runner jumps forward every time. You can even feel it in the brake pedal to

what it feels like to me is the brake are not holding the wheels tight and the wheels are sliping from the brakes and this giving it that forward jump from the brake grabbing the wheels again. (they keep slipping unto it has come to a complete stop)

first time i had believe the ABS was not working and didn't even think that it may be the brakes sliping so i bring it to toyota to be fix they tell me the front brake has seized but it has already done damage to the front rotors and brakes so they was replace (rotors , brake pads, brake holder thing, calipers, fluid flush)

he said the computer didn't find any errors with the ABS and that this can be what is making the ABS not working as the breaks would always be on and after fixing this they should work but after the fix was done the 4runner still does the same thing no ABS jumps forwards when panic braking

and if anyone want to know i put all the force i can onto the brake pedal thinking maybe it needed more force.

when stopping any other time the pedal does go like 1/2 way down before u even feel it grabbing the wheels.

I'm taking it back in to be looked at on Friday to see what going on but i want to see if anyone here knew what it may be

PS) anyone know how many clicks should the E-break make before it is all the way lock ? seen before about someone saying the head one is 9 clicks the feet one for me is 13 but i think it only stops bc it cant go down any farer lol

Ty you for anyone who know anything about what im talking about and sorry for any spelling errors.

Well, your brakes never actually lock up. The entire purpose of ABS (ANTI LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM) is to prevent lock up. You lose practically all control of the direction of the truck when the brakes lock up. Locking the brake is very bad and causes more accidents.

Numerous studies have shown that ABS systems actually stop the vehicle sooner, as when you lock up.. the "skid" is uncontrollable and dangerous.

I don't know if you can't feel it, but in ABS braking maneuvers; I don't know when it engages, the you should feel a pulsing as the ABS system will engage and disengage the brakes is quick successive manner. It operates almost exactly like "brake pumping", which is what you were taught to do on older brakes.
The pumping prevents the brake system from failing.

Also. You appear to not understand how a hydraulic system works. making the pedal harder doesn't do anything. You are not actually stopping the car, a mechanical hydraulic pump is. It magnifies your pressure...

i know what its like to have wheels lock up and i know what ABS feel like and this is not ABS or lock up lol its more like someone coming from the back and ramming you lol what would force the wheels to slip from the brakes plus the ABS light never even comes on

its like the brakes are not holding the wheels tight
would take a video but i dont see any snow coming my way and that would be the best way to show it. Now it does do the same thing on dry pavement but hurts more lol

when googling this i found someone trying to do a burn out where his front wheels would slip from his brakes he was asking the same thing but got no where lol im not doing burn out just trying to stop lol

i did read about that but wanted to make sure i gave all the info i have on everything lol

It is entirely possible that your master cylinder is bad or weak. If your brake system is not able to make enough pressure to stop, it could be system needs a little tlc.

found out i was wrong and u was right to some point lol

i pulled the fuse to see what would happen when braking hard and the wheels did lock up and slide down the road

so now im more lost then i was before i will try and take a video next time it rains hard

more info
when braking hard you can hair like metal grinding on something and the ABS like does not come on and i cant any video on what abs should do or sound like on other 4runners

dude, this is how ABS works. When ABS kicks in, it pulsates the peddle to brake effectively yet preventing lock up and sliding. Different manufacturers use different styles of ABS, some just brake well and do not pulsate or allow wheel skid, some pulsate like ours. Sounds to me like you are just not familiar with ABS on our 4Runners

I have too have a 03 SR5 and am new to the T4R and learnd that it wieghs 5000 lbs and it takes a bit longer to stop than my other vehicals (530I BMW, 95 Z28 built, 98 Z28 built).

You are right I have not had it that long and this is my first time with anything bigger then a 4 door car. But it is a used 4Runner with no service records.
So I'm sorry if I'm a bit jumpy lol.

Only thing i do know is there no ABS light that comes on when stopping hard.
Does the ABS light come on when it starts to work ?
(The light does come on when it does it testing when starting up.)

To mrpanic7:
There is no pulsating feeling in the brake. Just a hard grab and release type of feeling. You can even hear the brakes sliding on the rotors. (I think that is where the sound is coming from.)
This is just how it works then ? lol With out any light telling you its doing its job ? lol

ty you all for your help I'm sorry to be bugging you with this im just worry something may be wrong with it :(. I love it to much to just let things be lol.

The ABS light doesn't come on when the ABS kicks in. The light is supposed to come on when there is a problem with the system. The manual instructs you to take it to the dealer. Page 278 of the manual explains the ABS system in detail. (if you don't have a manual, pick one up off eBay or from salvage. They really are handy).

What we teach nowadays is stomp and steer. By not locking the wheels, you stop in a shorter distance and can still control the vehicle with the steering wheel. The 4runner will actually help your to hold the pedal down if it detects a panic situation and doesn't think you're applying enough pedal pressure. With an ABS system, you don't want to use threshold braking (the technique of applying brakes at just the right pressure that prevents the wheels from locking up - the old best way). Locking up the wheels was always bad (well except on some surfaces, see below). You lose all steering control and as the tires slide without turning they heat up the rubber starts to liquify which increases your stopping distance even more.

I don't notice the pulsation too much in the 4Runner but you know it is there an and you should hear some noise as well. I always think it sounds (and even feels like) a piece of spring steel going 'twangggggg.'

One interesting thing in the manual. It says that the there are several situations where the ABS might actually require a longer stopping distance. "rough, gravel or snow-covered roads" are one of those situations. Apparently (and I guess logically) allowing the non-spinning wheel to dig into the surface stops the vehicle more quickly.
