Brake shudder at low speeds help

I experience a shudder in the car, not the pedal when pumping the brake at low speed. Common situation is pulling up to a stop and pushing the pedal firmly at low speed but then lift off quickly, this is when I feel the shudder. Pads are 80%. No other abnormal shakes or vibrations.

Rotors could be warped. I had similar symptoms. Just replaced the rotors and pads and it now stops smooth as can be

That would be a nice simple solution...did yours only shudder at low speeds when coming off the pedal quickly? Otherwise my brakes are smooth, even at high speed + hard braking which is when warped rotors usually show their symptoms.

Hmm no, mine would shudder at low speeds, high speeds, some wheel vibration even when not applying brakes at all. I missed that yours was only when releasing the brake pedal at low speeds. Maybe calipers sticking a little? :noidea:

Good call on caliper. I’ll take a look the best time I service the brakes. They do make a tiny squeek when coming to a final stop. Steering wheel also pulls slightly to the left when braking.

I shudder too...

My 96 Limited shudders too but only heavy braking from speeds over 50mph. I'd love to replace the rear drum brakes when I get a little extra coin, there's some amazing write-ups here I've found for that conversion.

I had this symptom once. I had foreign material that had been stuck on the rotors, it went away with time. After 3-4 months it was completely gone.

You are right about high speed + braking, or having to brake constantly when going down steep passes is when you see warped rotors become an issue. Also been there.
