Brake Warning Light when shifting

Hey Gang. I have a 2000 4Runner that has been running great. Recently, my red Brake Warning Light has been coming on and off while shifting (manual trans). (the one thats on when the emerg brake is pulled up)

It seems to only happen when I'm hitting the clutch and shifting between 1st and 2nd or between 2nd and 3rd. Once I'm off the clutch and hitting the gas, it goes off again.

I checked the brake fluid, it looks like its filled enough.

I'm in the Northeast, not sure if the cold weather is affecting it. It never happened last year.

Any suggestions as to what might be causing it?

Try adding a drop of brake fluid. There is a sensor in the master cylinder that is very sensative in the cold weather.

yeah had the same problem! It "looks" like it doesn't need brake fluid, but if you add some i bet the light will stop blinking. Mine did the same thing and I was sure the fluid was full.

Now you've got three opinions - all the same -- add a little brake fluid -- Toyota service manager told me when I experienced the same problem that Toyotas are inherently susceptible to the cold, and the emergency brake light coming on is your "warning" signal - not harmful, just irritating....
