Brakes don't work in cold..

Sometimes in the morning I'll leave for work and when I back out of my parking spot the brakes do not work. I try and the brake pedal is solid, will not give at all. It has been abnormally cold recently so maybe they are just frozen? Just seems odd that it only happens in reverse and only the first time I use them. Anyone else have this issue?


EDIT: Doesn't only happen in reverse just the first time I use them on cold mornings.

You may need a new check valve. Sounds like this is a common problem for our trucks in the cold. See this:cold winter brakes

+1 on the check valve. $60 part.
Do the rubber boot as well.
Back into your garage and you'll see it's the same going forward in the cold.

By the way, it has nothing to do with reverse. Just by chance, you use the brakes in reverse first.

Yes, I figured that out this morning because I backed into my spot last night and they didn't work in drive either. Had to use the parking brake. This problem should be included in a sticky somewhere sounds like a common problem and a dangerous one at that.

Mine did it years ago. Kinda scary.

did you ever figure out what this problem was I have the same issue with my 2000 4runner limited now happening all the time and I replaced the brake check valve with no luck
