Brakes pulling to both sides

Rack bushings are a real chore, there's one large bolt that can be torqued down extremely hard. Make sure you have a really, really big breaker bar or air tools.

Oof. What makes it a chore? I was thinking about doing this. I had my rack pretty much slid off the mount points for the LCA cams.

I attempted to remove the rack to get the cam bolts out, but was unsuccessful getting that center nut off. I got the rest off no problem though. I started rounding it off so I quit. I was using a big impact driver and a 12pt socket. I found my 6pt socket after the fact.. hopefully that will do the trick Friday or Saturday when the bushings come in.

I watched the rack move probably 1/2” to either side when the tech was showing me.

See the OP's quote above. That center bolt is extremely hard to take off after 20 years, especially if the rack has never been touched over that time.

Oh gotcha. The large one? That one was surprisingly not too tough to turn, thanks for the heads up though. I think I can tackle that pretty easily. My rack is just as bad as OPs from what it sounds like.

After rounding the nut on a different 4Runner at the pic-n-save, I decided to look it up and just found out the center nut is welded.
Guess I got bored half way through and wasn’t paying enough attention while watching Timmy’s video. Haha

Got the new poly rack bushings in!

Well, the welded nut, is no longer welded.. It’s also no longer removable. Haha

Used this clamp to get the sleeves in the new bushings.

Final alignment specs

The pre alignment was after the new rack bushings and a new outer tie rod.

I was hoping for all greens, but whatever. I was also expecting a little more caster, but I don’t care since it drives right, which is why I got the new parts and alignment to begin with.

I believe this has solved my pulling issue! It’s been a few days since the final alignment, and I think its good now!

The manager said with the new bushings the rack doesn’t move. I think that might’ve been a big contributor in addition to the shot bushings.

Drives straight and smooth!

Thanks everyone for the help. :)
