Edit: I will admit that stupid panic brake assist thing scared the crap out of me a few times. Now if there was something I could disable it would be that stupid feature.
Until it saves you and your occupants life :lookout:

And it may indeed do that. But I do not like the unpredictability of it. It has caused me to lock up unexpectedly a few times that I did not intend it to only because I quickly transitioned from gas to brake. I like to know what the brakes are going to do based on MY input from light pressure all the way until the ABS kicks in. Now I find myself having to think about how much/how fast to apply the brakes. Having it over-brake unexpectedly could be a bad thing in the rain or snow. I will say this feature, or at least the way it behaves, is truly unique to the 4Runner. No other car, truck, suv I have driven locked the brakes up before I wanted them to. It's really my only 4R complaint other than the stinky exhaust and tapping sound.
It does not lock up the brakes in any situation, even snow and rain. It just stops you much faster than you can stop yourself. It took me about three times before I figured out to not panic brake unless it was a panic situation. ABS does not lock up continuous. It locks and unlocks a lot in milliseconds like a pulse. It's actually called a dither signal to the solenoid.
If you don't roll down the rear window while accelerating or climbing mountains you will not smell the catalytic converter, not exhaust, reaching the temperature required that produces the sulphur smell byproduct.
