I would just like to add in balance that mine has always started up just fine. There are a good amount of threads related to "long crank times" but I believe that means something might be wrong. IAC issues are common.

And I would be willing to bet that is still catches slower than 75% of the cars on the road. My dodge neon (and my dad's Jeeps) will start with literally a flick of the key. If you just flick your key to the "start" position does your truck start? Or do you hold it for any measurable amount of time? I'm just really curious, which is why I ask.

Iac?

Idle Air Control. It's a valve that is bolted to the throttle body. A little bit of a pain to get off, because there are coolant lines running into it, and some sealed screws. But still very doable, if you want to take it off and clean it.

I mentioned IAC because the idle air control often fails to work properly causing among other things, difficulty starting and idling. It is very common after 150k. Most people just put their foot on the gas to compensate.

Well I have no strong evidence but mine seems to start at a normal speed. I have driven many cars, especially when I was a valet for 2 summers in college.

Mine seems normal to me is all I mean.

I agree with you too. I've never thought that might took longer than average to start. I've had well over 10 vehicles and also had a detailing job in high school, so I've definitely started my fair share of vehicles.

Interesting, interesting. Having started 7 different 3rd gens, I've always thought they started slow compared to everything else. I guess "n=7" wasn't big enough. lol

So is it anything that I should nip in the bud or just wait 'til something goes wrong?
PS I want to remove the running boards but w/ a baby on the way my wife wants to keep them real bad.

Nice 'Runner! under 100K is great to have and rare to find, it seems... No rust, I take it?

the Duratracs looks sweet! I'm wanting some after I wear out my current set of BFG A/T's (Rugged Trails 30's).

Keep the running boards at least until after the kid comes. Then re-evaluate. That's my opinion.
