That's not too bad...I just want shackle tabs, a swing away and a hitch...how'd you order it? Any time I go to the website I can't find a way to order...

I just called them to order it. Then they gave me all the options to decide if I wanted to add anything to the basic bumper/swing away. It took about 4 months to get it tho!

Gee Brian, you didn't want to paint it white to match your truck? Or maybe Gray to match the Rocks you are going to hit with it? Paint looks good!

Haha, thanks. The black at least matches my ARB and my sliders. I wonder what it would look like if all those were white, might look cool. Definitely different.

Pikeman and I got it on today! Pics to follow soon (it was dark when we finished). We had a few hitches during the install, I had to grind my frame at the rear body mounts a little and we had to widen a few of the holes with a cutting torch because they didn't line up so great, but we got it on with a little persuasion. A HUUUUGE thanks to Pikeman for helping me out, I couldn't have done it without you!! And it would have been hell without my Dad's forklift too!

WE mounted it last night. I am sure he will get pics up today or tonight. Looks really good. Even with a "production" bumper the few things we had to do to get it to bolt up is to be expected. Brian and I are both impressed with the quality of welds and fabrication of this bumper. There are slight variances between the frame holes of the different years so having to drill a little or open up a hole to get it to line up isnt a big deal. This is why a lot of fab shops want your truck there and to do the install since most people would complain about why it wasnt a direct bolt up.

Plating frame rails?

Good looking bumper Brian!

What is the consensus on plating (reinforcing) the rear frame rails if you put on a steel rear bumper, tire carrier, gas cans, etc.

I remember discussions long ago (not sure if it was on this forum or another) where people were telling some kid he needed to reinforce his rear frame rails... then the kid lied and said he did... then he posted pics that showed he lied... and on and on.

Anyway, I'm looking at a rear bumper and have been thinking about getting the swing away as well. I was just wondering what people's experiences have been and if it is really necessary to have the rear frame rails plated/reinforced.

Alright, 1st pics!!! Sorry they're on my crappy cell camera, my good (4.1 MP, haha) is broken so it's all I have to take pics with. I haven't mounted the spare yet because I still need to drill a couple more holes for the mounts, but you get the idea... (each mount has 5 bolts ont the bottom and 3 on the sides for a total of 16 bolts)...

Thanks!!! I asked Steve at CBI that same question and he said that since his mounts bolt on the bottom and both sides of the frame (and the fact they already have a burly integrated reciever stock crossbar between them), there is no need for any more reinforcement.

He's been making these bumpers for the 3rd gens for about 3 years now and has refined it at least 3 times and said that he hasn't had anyone report any problems with their frames. He did say that excessive wheelin (whichof course I plan to do) can hammer the rear pass. side body mount, but a simple piece of steel welded to reinforce the floor of the body can remedy that - and that's only if it's even a problem in the next few years.

Depends on what bumper you go with and how it attaches. I have been fine with mine without any problems so far. I have been thinking of plating the inside of the frame since I used angle Iron and only attaches to bottom and outside of the frame. This would help with rigidity and reducing possible stress cracks. The CBI bumper that Brian got wraps around the frame and wont work if you plate the frame. I believe they built like that because it acts like plating as it wraps the frame.

Dave- something to consider is to sell your 2wd and buy a 4wd. Over half the guys I know that have done the conversion wish they had changed out for a 4wd. There isnt a big price difference from purchase price of 4wd and resale of your 2wd. So money save between that and cost of conversion is money they could have spent on suspension or other upgrades.

Brian looks good and man am I tired and sore from wrestling that thing yesterday. I can only imagine how much worse it would have been without the forklift.

Thanks D. I'm surprised how much the bumper didn't sag the rear. I'm still planning on throwing in those 10mm trim packers I got the other day from you but I'd say the rear has only gone down 1/8-1/4" at most. Once the spare is on there, full gas can, and a Hi-lift, I'm guessing I'll have less than 1/2" total of height lost so the 10mm rings should be perfect. Gotta love the 891s, they just handle extra weight like it's nothing.

My question is regarding the gas can holder: Is there some additional bracketry that bolts up to hold the gas can? Im guessing the gas can holder is on the drivers side, and the hi-lift holder is the bracket that is bottom center?

Yeah, there's actually a fairly big (single) gas can holder that bolts up to the bracket you see on the driver's side. I actually started to run out of paint so I finished the bumper and I'll probably paint the holder this week and install it. Post #84 in this build thread shows the same holder on the_josh's 4th gen...

Now that is one well-made rear bumper/tire carrier. I've always wanted a tire carrier but my dilemna being I can't find a matching spare 17's like I have.
