Jason and I made a cooler holder to mount on my bumper a while back, but I realized once I filled the cooler full of drinks and ice it was too heavy and would probably break the holder and I'd loose my cooler out on the trails.

So Driffter came up to my house a couple weeks ago (to help me put on my Tundra brakes and my pan hard drop) and he took the cooler holder back home with him to reinforce it for me. He came back up to wheel this weekend and brought it back to me!! He did an excellent job (thanks Jay)! I painted it yesterday and put it on this morning..

It mounts to the same holes that my jerry can mounts to so I can choose to take the cooler for close runs or extra gas for long trips.

I ordered some 35s today (315/75/16s)!! I got Treadwright M/Ts with Goodyear MTR casings (so they'll look just like the old MTRs). They were $712 shipped for the set of 4, that's pretty cheap for 35s!

They said I'll have to wait about 6 weeks, but I probably won't be running them until about Oct. anyways because I want to use up my current tires and put the freshies on right before it starts snowing again. But that'll give me a few months to clearance for them. I can't wait!

So from 255's to 315's...that's a leap! What do you need to do to clearance those wider tires and avoid rubbing on the trails?

I know, it's a ways away but I gotta get my money's worth out of my 255s. They'll be bald by fall.

I'm going to have to probably pound the **** out of my fire wall, but with my 1" BL, I think I'll be able to clearance that without doing a full tub. I'll have to hack a little bit off the lower portion of the front fenders with a sawsall or grinder, but that'll be easy I hope. My ARB should clear so that's it for the front.

I'm going to probably have to loose my fender flares because I think I'm gonna have to chop off the inner lip of the rear fender (where the screws are that hold the flares on). That'll let me stuff the tire without hanging up on that lip. Seeing as these SR5 flares go for good $$, it won't kill me to sell them and just go flare-less. But I will have to touch up the paint under the flares because it's pretty scratched up underneath there.

I'll have to loose that plastic piece that covers the gas fill tube inside the D/S rear fender and just deal with a little bit of rubbing on the fill tube itself at full flex (at least it's metal). And last but definitely not least, my 255s almost rub the rear CBI bumper when I'm fully flexed now, so I'm going to have to notch out the bumper a little or hopefully I can just put some 1" extensions on my bump stops and avoid cutting the CBI.

I've got my work cut out for me, but ain't nothin' a BFH and a sawsall can't fix!

Hey congrats on the 35's that will be awesome. It is hard to beat the price of treadwrights, and at that size the brand can make a big difference. I know you only ordered 4 but do you see yourself running a full size spare? It seem like it might be a little tight on that rear bumper.

Can't wait to see those come fall.

Damn, having fully functional 35's looks like alot of your time and patience will be challenged, but no guts no glory right?

And I'm assuming all these work will be done while awaiting for the tires to arrive? I guess it makes sense to prepare for it now, but how would you know how much to take away without the 35's as a pattern to go by?

In any case, I'm sure everything will turn out to the best, and I just want to wish you luck with your upcoming project......Your truck is awesome now, oh how much more with the 35's on?:artist2:

Congrats on getting some new rubber man. I know you've been planning to move up to 35's for a long time.

I thought I'd mention that if you haven't done so already, you should check out Dirtco's 3rd gen build over on YT... he's running a SS1.2 and 1" BL w/35's on wheels w/3.5" BS...and he just got done making some room on the front end without doing a full tub. Might give you some ideas.

Looking forward to seeing the tires on your rig.

Yeah, I plan to run a full size spare, but I didn't want to buy a new tire for it. There's a Used Tire King down in Ontario, CA that sells any size used tire for $35 (mounted and balanced). I have just enough room on my bumper to squeeze a 35 on there and still keep my cooler.

Thanks man! I think I'll be going back to my ugly stock 3-spoke wheels. I like the look of my steel Cragars, but they are so much heavier than the stock alloys, I want to make up some of the difference in power loss. I'm hoping that 315s on alloys won't be too much different than my 255s on steelies.

The good part is, the 35s will be here ~Sept. 1st. I will be able to mount the 35s on the stock wheels while I'm still running the 255s on the Cragars for about another month. That way I can throw the 35s on so I'll know what I'll have to clearance, but then I can switch back to the 255s and run those until the truck is fully ready to run the 35s.

Once it's all ready, I'll probably just sell the Cragars locally (since they would be a pain to ship). If anyone is interested, they have rock rash on the outer rings, but none of them are bent. They are about a year and a half old and they're 16x7s, 4"BS. I'm thinking of asking $150 for the set with the lug nuts (I paid ~$320 new for everything).

Thanks for the tip. I haven't seen his build yet so I'll definitely check it out. I did look at Troyboy's 4runner in person the other night and got some ideas to clearance without having to do a full tub. He's running 315 KM2s which are almost the exact same specs as the TWs I got.

Thanks, it's getting close to being about done once the 35s are on, but I do have a few things I "need" still.. like a supercharger and a winch mainly. But those probably won't be for a while. I've got a few other things in mind for the future too. Brian ain't done moddin yet!

maybe this week Instead of goin wheeling since there is that camping trip this weekend. Im down. The front rock slider doesnt really "slide" it more digs in to stuff. I was hesitant to chop mine, but now that its bent i DGAF.

Yeah, it's really more of a rock slammer. My bumper can be the guinea pig, I DGAF either because it's beat up and I paid $200 for it 3 yeaRS AGO.
