Hey i just read on Pirate the lower larga 2n06x off holcom creek just re-opened. IDK if its true, but i heard when holcomb opened that larga had about 70 trees left to be cut and that was it. Its supposed to be good. We are going to have to check it out

and at least you have work.

The supers don't make great bajas because the suspension. I probably would baja it if it were a standard Beetle. This super at least has the best engine tranny/combo (1600cc w/ 4 speed manual).

I'll either restore this and then sell it for a profit, or I'm considering buying a standard Beetle without a motor/tranny and swapping in the super's motor/tranny and then baja that one. Not sure yet..

Turbo would be slick, but I plan to SC the 4runner before that!
 
Just caught up on the 35" tire development.....SWEET. And I agree, steel wheels are too heavy for their own good.

Treadwright will get those tires to you much faster than they say. They told me 5-6 weeks, and it took 10 days.

Interesting. Congrats on the purchase either way. When I was looking for my first vehicle I checked out a Baja Bug but it was way out of my price range. It was pretty damn cool though.

And you're going to enter the realm of forced induction huh? I guess there's really not much left to do on your truck besides that. :guitar3:

That's good to know! They called last week and said if I wanted BFG casings they have them now, but I told them I'm holding out for Goodyear MTR kevlar casings. I've seen a couple people have sidewall issues on their new BFGs in the rocks, and the Goodyear kevlars don't cost anymore so they're worth the wait IMO. They said 6-8 weeks, but it really depends on when some kevlars come in, could be sooner.. I can't wait to put them on, but I gotta run these 255s down for a couple more months anyways.

I'm bummed I have to loose the Cragars, but they're too heavy and have the wrong BSing for 35s. I'm hoping to find some used ProComp aluminums or something, but we'll see. I hate my old stock 3 spokes, but as of now it looks like that's what I'm gonna have to use because I don't have $500 to spend on wheels. I wouldn't mind 5 stars, but people sell them for kinda a lot.

Thanks, yeah it'll be a while probably, but a SC is basically the next thing I want to do. It'll be a lot easier lugging those 35s around.
 
Why is the bumper off??

I went to my friend Jason's house today and after talking about it for a couple months, we went for it and trimmed the fat off my ARB bumper. We both smash the crap out of our ARBs on the rocks all the time so we've been talking about either hacking up our rock slammers for clearance or just ditching them and buying tube bumpers. I decided I'd get to hackin'...

I cut the whole bottom "flap" off on each side, so I gained ~2" more clearance towards the bottom/center and ~1" towards the top/outside. Then we cut the sides off, following the natural bend, so we cut 1" off at the corners going to ~3" towards the tires.

Jason also welded some small angle iron along the entire bottom to add rigidity. I took a pic, but it sucks..

Were able to cut 1" off along the entire bottom center portion of the bumper without disturbing the way it mounts and still keep the D-ring mounts functional too. We did have to move the bumper back to the original mounting holes because I had previously drilled new holes to accommodate for my body lift. Jason cut the actual mounts and re-welded them both up 1" today.

I bought my ARB used about 3 years ago for $200 so I didn't feel bad about being the guinea pig. I haven't tested it out yet on the trails, but I'm very happy with the result, both looks and clearance-wise. I honestly think it looks better than before. I'll take better pics with it painted, but I ran out of daylight today.

We did have a casualty today also..
The bumper fell off some stools and smashed the sh!t outta one of my fog lights. You can kinda see it in one of the pics. No biggie.

And thank you Jason (J-money$$$) for all your work and help!! I'll be happy to drive down there to help you hack yours if you decide to!

I feel like you're my Psychic Advisor right now.

I sat in the garage today, staring at the sides of my ARB, thinking of what it would look like if I were to cut it off along that bend. Then I looked at the front and wondered what it would look like if I trimmed that ~1" section off the bottom all the way acrosss.

I figure it would be quick work with an angle grinder, and then just a matter of some touch up paint on the edges.

no problem Brian, Ill probably cut mine in the next week. It looks Way better than the way arb cut it.

It makes it look like a more expensive/better built bumper. That big edge on the bottom is horrendous and kilsl the functionality
 
ohh yeah those before and after pics really show the great improvement. It sure want too hard to do either.

That spray paint matches the powder coating close than i though it was going to
