I don't recall ever leaving a comment here but that's a very nice 4Runner you have there sir. I like the blacked out look you have going on, very unique.

I am not sure if I am in it for the long haul with this 330i. I really like it but if I keep it past 100k I must really love it or it won't be worth it. The maintenance costs on the car after 150k will be relatively high. I am paying the loan down now and by this January I will know more about what my long term plans are.

There is a chance I may sell it (330i) and buy a Prius. I have driven them before and they are quite nice and roomy. Obviously not awesome like a 330i but hey I already have a truck to be my "fun" car. I was quoted $23,001 +tax for a Prius III. That includes the destination price & Nav is now standard on the III. Not a bad price ...

We shall see. Maybe you'll want to buy it back at a lower cost with 70,000 miles. LoL.

Are you have BMW remorse? With all those miles you are putting on it, maybe so.

BTW, my buddy has a older 2000 M5. He had to get all four rotors replaced. $396 and change.......EACH! The brake job bill was right around $2100.

Luckily for me the upcoming brake job at 60k will be covered by the warranty, pads and rotors.

I am just not sure if i trust the reliability over the long haul. Like I said before, I am keeping it for awhile.

I really like it and wash it every 10 days or so. I kind I wish I lived near the mountains so I could "really drive it" around.

Updates: still waiting for my skidplate. Painting my new bumper was a disaster. After 3 failures I am just going to get it powdercoated.

What did you wipe it down with? You shouldn't clean paint with any solvents unless you know they are approved for use with the type of paint you are using.
There is a very specific science to painting actually, sucks you wasted time and money on it though.

I would be more than happy to help you paint that bumper in case you decide you don't want to spend the extra money for powdercoat.

I've been following your thread for a while now. I like where you have gone with this and can't wait to see future developments. Your ride looks very rugged and smooth at the same time. Well done my friend.
 
Sucks about the paint. BTW, I like the Savage bumper! Very cool! I'm also glad to hear you got it for 450$. Over the next 6 months to a year, I'll be figuring out what kind of bumpers I want: tube or plate. From what I've learned on this site, talking to members and doing independent research, is that plate is more expensive and heavier. I'm hesitant to add much weight to my truck. As of now, she accelerates fine for my taste, but I don't want to lose any more power than I lost after adding a lift and larger tires. I didn't know the front Budbuilt weighs 90 pounds. Now I understand why you're switching to aluminum.

4Runner:
* waiting on Fab shop to finish my skid plate
* waiting a few pay checks to get my rear bumper powder coated, I've had a lot of expenses come up.
* bought a solar battery trickle charger off Amazon; hoping it will keep the battery tip top while I use my new DD.


2006 BMW 330i:

This car would have just cost me $1000+ if not for the previous owner's warranty.
A few weeks ago a valve cover bolt just snapped off. I noticed the bolt was missing and slight oil seepage. Luckily I still have the extended 100k or 6 year warranty until XMAS.
Apparently it is not uncommon for head or valve cover bolts to snap on this year or model due to bolt strain / over tightening at factory.

BMW agreed to fix it but only because of the warranty. Otherwise I would be out $1000+. The car only has 55,000 miles!

Upcoming brake job will be covered as well. That is value at $800 - $1000 for new rotors and pads.

if you keep the car out of warranty dont be scared to wrench on it. euro cars can be reliable if you keep up with the meticulous maintenance and honestly theyre easier to work on than some Jap cars are. its not wrenching on a 1984 Chevrolet 350 but its simple enough
