Update 12-01-13 | Re-installed Rock-Sliders Non-Skid Tape

THIS TIME .... thinner non-skid tape.


I pulled off my original non-skid tape from my sliders and just re-installed new thinner tape that I cut by hand down to about .75"

The original non-skid was 1.5" and wrapped around the tube just enough so that it would cut up anyone wearing shorts (myself, friends, GF) pretty badly.

Here is what it looks like now. The blue painters tape is just stayed on the for 24 hours, otherwise the non skid doesn't hold to the sliders.

Its hard to tell from the pictures but this time it hardly wraps around at all and sits mainly on the top making it less likely to cut you up.

Update 12-01-13 | Newly Painted Shackles


I am finally putting shackles back on my front bumper and this time they will be painted Charcoal Grey Metallic to match my new Savage skid plate (soon to be the same color after it arrives) and my projector lights.

Looks great Brian. As a part time detailer, I believe that Ultimate Compound is the best bang for the buck detailing product one can get over the counter. Just apply and then remove.

Got any stand alone shots of the PIAAs offroad at night by chance? I have a buddy who may be looking to unload a pair (hopefully to me) for cheap.

The rules and regs are as follows ....

Don't be a jerk and cops won't be a jerk to you. Out here in San Diego HID Projectors on cars (OEM) are super super common.

There is no way a cop could tell mine apart from an OEM light. My cutoff is below the mirors and the orange is basically invisible after 30 feet or so.

Now if a cop really wanted to harass me, could he? Sure could. But he could also harass me about my missing front plate, aftermarket tint, aftermarket exhaust and more.

I've been pulled over before, even given a ticket before. No one has ever given me a fix it ticket for the items above so basically I'm not worried about it.

Thanks! I will post some in a few days. I have a burned out bulb and need to replace it.

The PIAA 520s won't compete with those $320 Rigid Industry D2s but they are way better than the Hella lights and look better IMO.

Also a great light. It works the same as it did 6 years ago when I bought it. I would have no worries about buying a used one.

Not a bud built. It's a custom aluminum skid based off the bud built.

Yeah I'm not selling the aluminum skid since I smashed up pretty bad. I didn't realize that light offroad use would mean I can't hang with everyone else. Two trips in San Diego area and it was done

Hopefully the Savage lasts. I like the fact that it can be taken apart in two pieces vs. one.


No new pics of the Lexus since it hasn't changed. I do have a new Avatar so theres a new picture - sort of. Anyone know what its from? I'm thinking [MENTION=69868]LittleCaesar[/MENTION] would know.

They drive just as nice as the BFG TAs I had on before. I won't get a chance to fully test them offroad until late December but I expect them to perform pretty good.

Update 12-08-13 | Finally fixed my Optima battery tie down issues


Ever since this summer when I went to Anza-Borrego my Optima has been poorly tied down in the engine bay. It came loose when I was out in the desert at least 3 times and I've been nervous ever since.

I tried a couple of things but they did not work out. I considered buying a battery box but all the places either sold Optima or Universal boxes. Well since I'm not keeping with the Optima brand name forever I decided it would be dumb to buy a Optima specific battery box.

I went to Home Depot and pieced together my own adapter. I think it worked out pretty well and seems really tight. The pictures are below.

Update | 12-15-13 | Finally Installed Painted Shackles and Lotus LCA Skids


As the title mentions, I finally got around to installing my newly painted Lotus LCA skids. I bought these because for only $99 they seems like pretty good protection and at this point my LCA brackets are looking pretty beat up.

I mentioned before that I am going to Death Valley in December. I'm really looking forward to the 3 day trip. I've never been there but it should be good times.

I had some minor flare damage due running 33s. Popped off both front fender flares and tire bent right fender metal. perhaps a .75" body lift is in my future.

That's almost impressive. Wouldn't some extended bumpstops be better then raising the body higher. If I remember correctly, we're both fans of keeping our 4Runners as low as possible.

I will look into the bump stops as a solution as well. Either way I won't be fixing it until Feb. due to cash constraints.
