My 10lb powertank when full is between 600-1000 psi. On the gauge that is the normal fill range. Usually they fill it to 800psi. Last weekend I did just that and left for Moab with only 400 psi. I filled up only once Thursday from 14 psi to 30 and once again saturday from 14 to 25 and it was empty. Then I had to use my compressor. I stick to the 3-4 complete fills on 10lbs.

Got my new 11.5" Amber LED strips in the mail this week from Flyryde (updated pictures)

They are a bit pricey but they match my orange halos which was really important to me.


Op test **pictured** everything lights up.

I then sealed them with Marine quality clear Epoxy since they arrived as just exposed circuit cards.

Marine grade clear epoxy isn't cheap. These two bottles cost me $40. Good thing they can last (unmixed) for many years. Hopefully I will find some more use for these chemicals down the road.

Here the LED strips are drying, not that interesting. It takes 3 days to cure fully so I coated the bottom side first, let it dry overnight and then I did the front. It seems to have dried crystal clear so I think I should be good. I plan to top it off with a final coat of UV PolyU from Home Depot after day 3.

I should have pics of these things mounted by the end of the week.

Thanks. It sounds like I should stick with my plan to get a compressor first and worry about CO2 for down the road.

how do you have such skills in the paint department...??

Thanks. I actually had it PC'd because the last two times I painted it the paint wore off due to the rubbing of the rubber mounting pieces.

Tough to go through KC without getting scratched up..

hmmm my paint is already effed up so you can just follow me and ill bring you some hedge trimmers cause your paint is clean i must say.


but really there are lots of trails to choose from, i would vote fore golden spike cause i wanna try the crack out. have you done that yet?

It is pretty bad. I've given up on my paint so Kane Creek was great for me. Who doesn't love the sound of branch on paint?

Golden spike (really the whole trifecta series) is a blast. Poison spyder and golden crack are so worth it. Gold bar rim is whatever but it is necessary if you want to do all three. I would definitely recommend both those trails.

I'm also thinking about Top of The World or Fins & Things for that Wed.

I've never been on either. Last year I did Elephant Hill and I recommend that for anyone interested. It was a great trail.

i did top of the world along the kokopelli trail last year and its deff worth your time. the trail isn't all that hard but the view at the top is amazing.

if you have a smaller group you could do fins n things and hells revenge in the same day. i did that last year and it was great.

Got these in the mail today.

DDM Tuning HID Kit, 3000K H3 Bulbs

These will be put in my PIAA 520 Fog Lights.

I took Lumina measurements with the current bulbs. I can't wait to see the difference.

I was debating a set of Rigid Amber Duelly D2s which are $300+ but I decided to give these a try instead. Only $60 shipped.

Plus I like the classic look of the PIAA 520s.

Getting ready to head over to Moab on the 22nd.

Our stories have a lot of similarities...
You bought your '97 in '03 with 68k. I bought my '98 in '02 with 69k. :high5:
While I bought mine in Flagstaff, AZ, I did attend SDSU in the 90's :beer:
Mine is still mostly stock, but this is the year I'm starting to modify it.

May 2015 Big Bear Snow Trip Report & Pictures


I don't have any pictures but driving up to Big Bear was pretty sketchy. The fog on the highway was so bad that you couldn't see 3 cars in front of you. We witnessed a wrecked Landcruiser that was hit just before we got there. It was still in the middle of the road and we had to go around. It looks totalled but no one seemed seriously injured. There were so many A-holes driving around with no lights on at all in the dense fog, very dangerous.


Meet up location: Green Valley Lake turn off where Crab Flats Rd. begins { 34.233661,-117.089281 }

Head up Crab Flats Rd. about 10 minutes until you see the turn off for 2N54.

Started at the end of 2N54 { 34.247506,-117.085848 } and headed Eastward on the trail.

No snow at this point, just a decent easy going trail.

Next, at the intersection of 2N54 and 2N13 { 34.248317,-117.056901 } there is a turn off for the trail marked on the map as Crab Creek. There is no sign, just know to go on the one that is not 2N13 and heads sort of south eastward.

By now in the pics we were deep in the forest of fog and snow. The pics don't really do justice for how foggy it was. You could really only see about about a block ahead but Adobe Photoshop corrected the picture.

This trail was pretty cool and very decently steep. With no snow I would say it is a 3, no sliders required. The conditions we ran it in were slush which isn't bad at all since there is no ice. In the Winter, with a coating of ice this trail would be very dangerous.

We were able to drive another 10 minutes before getting to crashed tree blocking the road. It looked like it had been there for a while now and on my map there is a triangle in that location. I don't know what triangle means ... but I'm going to assume it means road blocked.

On the US Forest Service 2013 map the road were on should have taken us up to "Craft USGS" something of significance but with tree blocking the road we had to turn around.

We turned around and headed back to 2N13. On the way Rob's stock Tacoma was just not able to make it up the hill in the mud and slush. He has 4x4 and a locker but even with letting the air out of his tires it was a no go. I'm pretty sure his city tires are the reason. They are not offroad at all or even all-season.

I finally had a chance to use my recovery strap and I was able to pull him up past the offending part of the trail.

After making it back to 2N13 we took that trail all the way to Fawnskin and then headed down to the lake and back to San Diego. By then it was 3:30pm.
