Brighter Headlight

Hello,

Just wondering if there is a cheap and easy way to make my headlights a little brighter, specially in high beam.

I drive a lot in very dark lonely roads and it would be nice to be able to see further.

By the way i will eventually upgrade to a nice set of fog lights but for know i would just like to replace the bulbs if possible.

Silverstar ultras. For just a bulb replacement.

But since you wont be encountering other drivers a lot, HID would be just fine. DDM Tuning is the one you want to look at.
 
Yep I got the high end silverstars.... pretty big difference. I'd get some halogen flood lights as well. HIDs are expensive and require a warm up process. Even if u wont be encountering many people it would still be a little annoying turning them off and on repeatedly and might be detrimental to the bulb but not sure.

You could also build a headlight relay wiring harness, to get more power to the headlights. I started, but never got completed this project. Bought the parts from Daniel Stern Lighting.

Also, Silverstars are better than stock bulbs for sure and easy to find, but far from the best out there.
 
I agree with the others on the silverstars being a good replacement bulb.

I would suggest that down the road you look into a good set of driving lights over a set of fog lights. Sounds like that's more what you're looking for.
 
Just don't expect much life out of the SilverStars. I gave up on them and went back to standard bulbs from NAPA. I just got tired of changing them.
 
I hate to talk about a Honda Civic ever but my brother got some aftermarket fogs and modded in some gorgeous HID's. These put out more light than his headlights. So an option would def be a conversion to HID for your headlights or an addition of some other kind of lights possibly Spot light Daylighters I loved mine! Now I'm going to convert them to HID's
 
I have the Phillips Xtreme power as well. I have had them in for a year now no issues. I like them and they compare to silverstar easily. I have had all types of bulbs in my vehicles, hids, silvers, PIAA, Nighthawks.

Stick with the halogen for all weather driving unless you are ready to make the jump to some projectors. Even then i was never impressed with the light output during foul weather.

The "whiter" the light the more they reflect back at you in rain, snow, fog. If running hids be prepared to pair them with a yellow fog

Ok, I bought parts and made two harnesses for 2 yotas. One high beam indicator works and one just won't. And, the schematic people keep posting on here does not seem to work right.

So, I recommend just buying the wire harness. Maybe someone can give us a link.

I've also run across a number of cars where the headlights were just aimed so poorly that you can't see anything.

4Runners with DRL's are wired totally different from non-DRL 4Runners. One is switched hots, the other is switched grounds. On the DRL's the high beam indicator is really a "low-beam not on" indicator, as weird as that sounds. Understanding your circuitry is fundamental to getting a result that works. Buying a prebuilt harness is no guarantee of getting it right.

If something you buy doesn't work, you send it back. Which may suck to do but it seems like it would be worth a try to me. This is in a topic where the guy just wants to change his bulbs to make things better.

If you understand it all when no one else really seems to, you could kindly set us all straight with a nice schematic. I've read all I can find on the subject and tried different versions. It seems like most of the people end up with the same results, high and low beams on when you only want high and/or no high beam indicator. I've spent hours trying different ways. Can make it work fine except for the indicator light. I would love to find the answer. I have no DRL. I made the same thing for my t100 and it works great, indicator light works fine but not on 4r.
 
I've been running Silver Stars in my F350 for several years with no problems and I'm very happy with the increase in light output.

On the 4rnr I went for the HID kit from VVME on ebay. I had already done the 99+ headlight housing swap some time ago and had them properly aimed. When I swapped in the HID's, the aim was crazy high. The high beams didn't even touch the road! With the clear headlight housings and proper aim, I have tons more light on the road but still no flashing from oncoming drivers. They do take a few seconds to warm up, but I really don't see the problem with that. Overall I'm pretty happy with the setup, but it was kind of a PITA to find room for everything under the hood.
 
I've been running silverstars in two of our vehicles but they burn out pretty quickly. Maybe 2 to 3years at best in my experience and they are not cheap. Now I'm using the Xtravision bulbs as I have heard they last longer. I'm very happy with how much brighter they are over stock bulbs. In the 4runner I don't see a need for driving lights anymore. Off road lights would be nice.
