I think that's all I would need. The only brace I made was a plate on the backside but I know there is more on the surf.

Put it on and put on the surf tire carrier. Got all the parts. Figure I'll paint the hatch and spoiler, get it on, then work the carrier bit so I can align it.

Took the 4runner to visit the national parks.
Arches National Park, a dirt road that turned into a 4WD road. We took it back to the main. Not too difficult for the 4runner, but some obstacles required spotting to keep the paint and bumper on. I got to spot, she got to drive.
I did that same trail in Arches a few years ago, its not very popular but I think its my overall favorite.

I'm with ranbar2. It's tricky work though. I am glad mine came out as well as it did but having the hinge mounted in the flat metal kind of makes it weak. I was considering solidifying the connection from the rear so it had 2 axis secured from movement.

I'll mimic others on yota and here that have done the OE carrier. It'll turn out, just have to take the time to do it. I only got as far as buying the rod and glass for the carrier mount filler. Got the hatch and spoiler all on and everything working right. I swapped the harness over. For emblems, I'm going to put on a Hilux & SSR-X and they are getting dipped right now.

As a side note, which Miller is that tucked up against the wall? My brother has had my 211 for 8 months, which is beginning to irk me.

Its a 211. Glad I went with the 211 over something smaller. Its my first machine and miller really makes it easy with the autoset.

I see exactly how they did it now for the hatch. Males a lot of sense too! Trying to have the latch in the center of the rear door does create a lot of wiggle room so to speak with the panel. Latching down at the bend in the metal provides a lateral beam and then also provides strength by being really close to the actual door latch.
I might try to bend something up to bring plate up to my latch from the rear door. Then again I am looking at building a bumper sometime soon and I could make a support the carrier slides into to assist with the vertical load of the tire. Things to consider. Thanks for the pic of that!

You should be glad you didn't go with the 180. I have a 140, 180, and 212. The 180 is awful, and has zero consistency. Most likely the worst welder I've ever owned.

Put a fresh coat of pain on my wheels and got the 255/80/R17s on. So much quieter than duratracs and a lot less sidewall roll. I used the heat gun to move the fender plastics. No more rub than my duratrac so far. Also fixed my 1" driver lean which is not shown.
Thinking about adding another roof rail with rivnuts. I got some rails and cut them down.
I'm not looking to carry a lot of weight up front, maybe most will be 1/3 of a kayak. The load in compression is fine, I am more thinking the issue will be the pulling out the rivnuts due to aero load or bouncing stuff. I wanted a continuous rail, but the existing ones are a bit too far in towards the cars centerline and would interfere with the sun roof so made a short one.

I don't think the rivnut pulling will be an issue for you, especially if you use a few of them. My front legs just sit on the roof and have no moved yet.
If you're worried about it you could perhaps remove the headliner and use a piece of flatstock or something to bolt through to. Just an idea (which I think would be overkill)
The bigger tires really filled out your wheel wells and look nice! My next tires will be of the "skinny" variety for sure... Did you notice any gain/loss in acceleration? My 285/70R17s were the biggest drain on my power ever...
