brockeverly's build thread

So I am now on five fill ups since the Magnaflow, averaging 18mpg since install. I am beginning to not believe those that say that there is no change with a muffler. Same route, same driving style, same gas station (down to the pump, I am a creature of habit). I am up around 1-2mpg on all tanks since install, something has to have changed installing it.

more mpg?! I want in!
Are you talking about air filter, or what exacty!! I went through your thread and couldn't find anything about it.

FWIW- this is the only forum I've ever been on where established mods like airbox and exhaust are deemed "non-functional"

I just ignore it. :)

I installed a Magnaflow 12586 muffler. I have an AFE dry filter in stock box as well, but I have had that for a long time.

Same for me.

Hi Brock.. did you have them change the cat-back piping as well to a larger diameter, or just the muffler?

Okki

All stock piping, just cut one off and welded on another.

Shockingly I got ever so slightly better MPG too when I did my intake and muffler.

You will gain a small efficiency advantage usually in the few 10th's of a mpg. 5-10% gain is improbable to say the least. With that said I won't disagree with Brock. I have been around long enough to know that outliers to the curve do exist on both sides lol.

Antman, if you do an airbox mod, and an intake mod, and a throttle body mod, and an ECU mod and an exhaust mod you WILL gain both in efficiency and HP. Remember though for every gain there is a loss somewhere else. Thus is the nature of things.

Have had the AFE intake installed for half a tank now. I am not seeing a noticeable increase in power or efficiency thus far. Seems throttle response is a bit better and it sounds bad ass, but that is about it. We will see how it works out after a few fill ups. I do not expect much out of it, but I am glad now that I bought it. The growl it has along with the Magnaflow was worth it for me. Plus it saves me a lot of time looking at it online now that I have it LOL.

Whaaaat no in ride video of the intake sound?

One more thing on the muffler, if you've heard the TRD fj muffler, where do you think th MF stands? At highway cruising speed can you hear it?

I've got the same intake/muffler combo and yes it does sound bad ass! The downside is that my mpg is in the dumper because I can't stop mashing the gas so I hear it.:D
