Broke fitting in air box

While removing airbox (V6) for throttle body cleaning, broke small fitting in the back of the airbox that has a small hose attached w/o clamp.
Can somebody confirm was the function of that fitting/hose

It’s a vacuum hose for the fuel rail. Funnily enough I also broke mine yesterday during my headgasket replacement. Using epoxy to put the piece back on seems to have worked well.

Using epoxy to reattach the "nipple" should work....but you also risk totally or partially blocking the the interior passage way of the nipple thus causing the vacuum to not be able to past through the nipple and go to the fuel rail....but you could easily remedy that by using the correct size drill bit to carefully drill out the blockage in the nipple after the epoxy totally dried.

Lol. Exactly what happened, initially crazy glue to keep it in place, epoxy it, got block, and drilled. So far so good.
When I drilled I wasn't sure if I had perforated epoxy or some valve inherent to the system. Didn't want to remove the HFC mesh to take a look before asking here.
What would happen if that repair fails? What would be the symptoms?

I had the same problem. I broke off the protector, drilled and tapped the hole and screwed in a vacuum fitting. worked perfectly.

This is just an opening into into the airbox, nothing inside the airbox related to this broken piece, just a hole correct?
(Haven't removed my HCF to look at the inside of the airbox)

Just buy a brass nipple at any auto or hardware store and epoxy it in.

That will work. I used a brass fitting as it was what i had. There is nothing behind the HCF. I took mine out anyway.
