Broke something today

Today, as I usually do, I placed a 2x6 about 15 inches long on the pad of my floor jack to distribute the weight evenly across my BB skid plates. I placed the jack so it would contact the lift point under the crossmember between the lower control arms and started to lift. As the wheels came off the ground there was a loud BANG and I almost crapped my shorts. Something serious broke under the TE.

Slowly I set jack stands under the frame on each side and lowered the jack. I removed the front skid plate and inspected it, hoping to find a broken weld or something. No such luck. I retrieved a hammer and started tapping everything metal under the truck and found nothing that indicated a part broke. I started the engine and everything seemed normal. What could it have been?

I decided to put the skid plate back on and deal with it tomorrow. As I prepared to lift it again to remove the jack stands I found the problem. The 2x6 had split lenghtwise, making the loud BANG which I think transferred through the skid plates making it sound like something expensive broke.

Haven't been that scared since the night I lost my virginity.

Glad to hear that it was only your undies that need replacing and not something on your truck!!! Imagine if that had happened while you were under the truck
