I was going to ask you. I dont need that fancy adjustable and Heim joint stuff. You guys sell a regular DOM Rear LCA, but not an upper. Or at least I didnt see one..

Do you guys sell a DOM UCA that is not adjustable and stuff?

Bummer man, that sucks!

I think the failure occurred by the upper link mounting bolt coming loose.

Bolts are very hard to shear off as it would have to shear off in two places in order to pull the link out of the axle.


Either the Bolt and nut loosened up, fell out or there was an actual structural failure of the bolt.

Once it had loosened up and fell off, the Axle was no longer in quadrangular support to the chassis.

Torquing the axle while driving it in low caused the axle to wrap up.

Once it wrapped upwards, it broke the other upper control arm and the drive shaft.

Shocks was just collateral damage.

I was going to say the same thing, all the links I've seen fail pretty much do the same thing. At least you were able to get it home and it didn't wipe out the the transfer case output shaft, or rip the diff out of the housing (I've seen both of those happen in similar situations).

I just bought the Toytec UCA's about a week ago for that reason, I was scared of the same thing happening, and I want to adjust my rear pinion angle. If you decide to stick with the stock links, and can't find any local, let me know. I could send you my old ones once I change them out (hopefully this weekend).

That is ugly. I have had an upper link break twice while wheeling. This is exactly what I was afraid could happen. I successfully limped off the trail both times.

Thanks! I am actually looking at building a set of my own now. I have a local source for DOM tubing, I have access to a shop where I can notch the tubing and prepare the bushing ends.

Is there a way to inspect the links to prevent such a disaster?

It was mostly just the stress I was applying that was too much for the stock links, they aren't the strongest. But just take a look and see if there is any cracking or bending in them.

Yeah its not too bad. The bumper though, it bent up when we tried to use the recovery points. Damaged the driver side fender and flare. Ill be able to update about it later. I may go back to the stock one to say the least..

He has a 4X Innovations front bumper. From what everyone else says Shrockworks is a solid bumper.

Right now we are only doing the adjustable uppers with the heims. If we decide to make any non adjustable ones and/or with bushings, I'll post them up.

Wow man, sorry about this whole situation... we talked already over PM but I wanted to mention: Sorry about that whole bumper thing.

I was pretty happy with my 4xInnovations rock sliders, they can make those it seems, but wtf are they thinking with these bumpers? Your recovery point bent the bumper enough to hit the flare and fender? What do they expect the bumper to do in an actual offroad situation?

I hope you guys come to some sort of resolution, the idiots who made it should take it back and give you your money. You paid for a real front bumper and you shouldn't get some flimsy/useless/damaging/improperly fitting ripoff.

Go for a Shrockworks and I guarantee you won't be dissatisfied. I didn't install the extra end plates for the frame (waiting on a winch), but it's taken a few hits and pulled a few vehicles without anything other than typical frame flex. Very little clearance between the bumper and fender/flare. I nailed a rock right at the edge of the bumper closest to the tire with no more than slight flare contact, only enough to scratch the powdercoat (same happened with my CBI, happens to all bumpers it seems).

Good luck dude, seriously, this is some messed up **** and no company should be making bumpers if they're doing it this poorly. I say compensation for the fender damage and flare should be accounted for, it was their shoddy work that messed them up...
