broken skid screws

Did oil change this morning. As I attempted to remove the skid out off the way so I can replace the oil filter I ended up broke two of the screws:bash: ... I went back and forth to Home Depot getting tools/advices to get the remaining parts of the screw out.

I used a screw extractor along with steal handle that was supposed to turn the extractor around. I ended up broke the handle (got a refund from Home Depot) and finally broke the screw extractor in half - the other half is filled inside the hole of the original screw .

Do you guys know how to get those screws out from the holes?

If this was my problem, I would leave the broken mess alone. Then I would drill & tap a in a new location.

Every other oil change, I dip the skid plate bolts in the old used motor oil; before re-installing them.

I just went through the same problem with the rear bolts of the front plate. I drilled out the bolts. I got some JB Weld to fill the holes and will retap the filled holes. I've been putting it off as it's going to be PITA to do. Hopefully it works or I'll have to have a shop fill in the holes with a welder and retap them.

Drilling on any other location is out of question as the original skid-hole connectors were built to fit on only certain spot.

Totally agree with you on that. I'm going to check with friends who work in metal shop department - see if there's easy way out.

Don't fret. I am sure there are many more the read this that have encountered the same problem ...on their friends vehicle...

...eh'hem....

For this very reason, I was looking at the AMSOIL external oil filter assembly. It moves the oil filter out to a more accessible location.

Folks here have completed it. They posted pictures to prove it. Admittedly, I have my concerns about plumbing skills to avoid any leaks etc.
