Broken sunroof leaking.

I know there are threads on both subjects, but mine is combined 2 problems. My sunroof does not work, so I cannot open it to reach the drain tubes. Previously owner duct taped the outside so no water would get in. My question is, can I clean the drains without operating the roof? Also, should I find a way to just seal off the sun roof entirely?

You can try just using some low pressure compressed air and blowing it through the drain vents in hope it clears the blockage. There's 4 vents, two rear and two front.

You mean the vents under the car? From what I understand, the sunroof needs to be open to properly reach them at the top.

It might be difficult to reach them from the bottom because they are hidden under fenders. And other body panels. I don't exactly know where they are at. I've just seen the water dripping when I cleaned mine out.

The rears are pretty easily accessible, the front passenger is not horrible either, the drivers side I've not seen yet so I can't say about that one. The rears are hidden behind the interrior quarter pannels, both fairly easily accessible with a philips screwdriver and about 25 minutes of time. The passenger front is behind the kick panel, again, can be accessed with a philips screwdriver and about 10 minutes time. I'm sure the drivers side is jut as easy, but being that I haven't paid attention to it, I can't attest to it's exact location.

I just had my sunroof out yesterday and you can take the glass out easily without it being operational. From the inside, pop off the two black plastic covers on the left and right sides of the glass. You will see 4 gold colored 10mm nuts, one at each corner of the glass. Zip those off and the glass is now free from the vehicle, lift it off carefully. You should be able to clean out the drains no problem.

Is there a way to manual open and close the sunroof? Had an Audi that the roof opened randomly (faulty switch) on a nice 5 degree night and I was able to pop open the over head control panel and use a hex to close it manually.

Just a question but would you want to blow the drains back towards the roof, it would seem that you are just asking gravity to reclog the drains.
