That looks really nice and I know there are only so many ways to skin the cat, but that looks really similar to Demello's bumper.

My buddy has a taco with a front and rear bumper from him and they're done right! If i needed armor I know I would be going that route.

Late update but here is the brute force fab front and rear bumper. To protect the washer fluid reservoir billy fabricated a plate to protect it. For my rear bumper we have discussed to have a dual swing out to work with the gobi ladder, have the rear tire sit a little higher, and side protection bars possibly with kick out bars.

I will be seeing him today and I will get that information for you
the cost of the bumper is not set in stone yet. He would like to use one more rig(mine) as the second guinea pig to make sure everything with the bumper works well and that there are no problems with the mounting points. Billy is very flexible with modifying the original plans to satisfy his customers. Billy and I actually thought of doing one of his "hybrid", tube/plate, bumpers on my rig which would save a lot of weight. If you have instagram you can search for "brute force fab", a lot of his work is on Tacoma world. If I can find the picture I will post up the hybrid bumper that he tacked up real quick just to get an idea how it would look.

Yes, please do a hybrid (front and rear). The weight of these bumpers is retarded, IMHO.
I'm not a fan of the rear shown here. Way too much hanging down low in the corners.

Pretty much every front bumper is a version of the classic ARB Bull Bar. I've yet to see one that doesn't look out of place on 5th gens, but everyone has their own taste. I don't think any of them from any manufacturer are unique in any way that would warrant a claim of someone copying them.

I have not. Filing a law suit =/= winning a law suit. Defending a patent for a roof rack is IMO nearly impossible. I would say it is in fact impossible to defend gobi's patents. The rack patent consists of one claim "The ornamental design for a multi-purpose storage rack for a sport utility vehicle, as shown and described." That basically protects nothing other than the front top bar having a slight rise in it. I'm pretty confident I can find prior art that would predate the GOBI claims. EDIT: 30 seconds of google image search results in dozens of racks on baja trucks that would predate the Gobi claims. It's total nonsense. I would certainly not support anything that has to do with GOBI for being bad actors in this instance.
It's a trolling law suit. In a better world we'd have more Rule 11 sanctions against the attorney who filed a claim on a garbage patent. There's nothing even remotely novel about GOBI's racks. But alas it'll cost a few thousand dollars to tell GOBI to go "f" themselves.
