BudBuilt bump out slider welds

Those of you with BB bump out sliders, can you please take a look at the welds under the bump out section and tell me if there are continuous welds? I have a couple that are not fully welded, and it seems to me that is not a good thing as water, salt, etc can easily get into the inside of the steel and rust it from the inside out. I am going to contact Bud if this is a isolated thing, but want to be sure before I waste his or my own time. Thanks guys!

The cleaned area is where the weld is not complete. About as wide as my finger.

I have a buddy that is an excellent welder, however, I paid for powdercoating from Bud. I dont feel that I should have to have it rewelded then pay for powdercoating again.

I'm have not looked at mine recently, but think they are just welds in spots holding the tread plate. I think some of the openings were intentional to let water drain. Your photo has too much flash and I can't really see what you might be talking about.

I have tread plate in the rear only. It is slightly lower than the bars. I am in the midwest and after one winter noticed spots where rust is starting through the powdercoat due to water puddling on top of the tread plate. So a few more drainage holes might have been good.

Either that, or I saw a photo of a rockslider that had the full treadplating. It appeared that the plating was set on top of all of the cross bars and welded in so it was higher and would not puddle water.

Knowing what I know now, based on the ability to act as a mud/ stone guard and not puddle water, the full length tread is probably the optimal design.

I just re-read your post and think I see what you are describing. You are talking about the tube not being fully welded? Well just throw some JB weld on it and leave BB alone until he finishes my winch plate! :whip2:

Its been more than the indicated "2 weeks" and I still have a winch sitting in my living room with nothing to mount it to!

The treadplate is the same way, but that is not structural. I have no worry about that. I will try to take a better photo when everything is clean.

I see where you are talking about. If they were interested in draining water, why not drill a small hole or something. Seems kind of strange. Is it like that on the other side?

It isn't, and there should not be an issue draining water out of a rock slider I wouldn't think. If it were fully sealed, it wouldn't get any water in it to need to be drained out.
