BudBuilt Winch Plate Install Instructions?

Looks great. What will be doing with the grill? Or just leaving it open? And any issues getting the bumper off?

I tried to cut it around the winch, but it looked like crap. I might use some expanded metal and make one but I am not sure. i like the opening cause I can reach in for the clutch. as far as the bumper coming off, it was tricky. I had to tug and pull to see where the clips where. It wasn't to bad.

Looks great. Did you order the roller or hawse fairlead winch mount plate from Bud? The hawse fairlead winch mount plate looks a little bit different on the website than what you installed.

If I may be allowed a little chuckle and then be serious. Bud has pics as well as measurements on his site. Even if he did not - the way to reverse engineer and counterfeit any product is to simply buy one. Are we no longer going to be posting pics of our mods?

My last post above stated the same comment, until I edited it. Being new to the board I feel like I have to walk on egg shells for a while. Being a jeep owner for numerous years and wheeling for the last 20. Crawling in W.E. Rock comps, Rubicon, Moad, ext. I have notice that your ideas will be copied if a person does not patent them. I am not out to steal or sell anyone's ideas. But like i stated above i have paid for some crap design. An a typical winch plate is about 150.00 for a Jeep TJ or Jk. So for me to drop down anything that cost more i want to see what i am paying for. sorry for the typos, i am using my phone for this post.

You idea's will absolutely get stolen regardless of if you patent them or not. Placing blame on the victim (original designer) = not ideal.

Obviously the thieves will find a way, but posting pictures online makes it really easy.

Sorry to be pushy on the subject but having first hand experience (as a victim) I can tell it makes zero difference. Its just not Chinese companies any more but those counterfeiting all have a 'Uncle Bob' who live in the States whose main job is buying the actual product for coping.

As for patents, believe it or not - they actually have started making a difference thanks to WTO agreements. Note that I said 'started'.

The absolute best defense is guys like us who care making sure we buy directly from those like Bud - even when we can find it cheaper online.

Couldnt agree more.

I'm glad to hear that things are starting to change. My wife worked in private accounting for years, and getting designs stolen by 'foreign' companies was a major issue for the companies she worked for. Usually the only way you could combat it was to move your manufacturing to Asia to compete with the low supply/labor costs, which IMHO is really not a great option.
