Buds built sliders - tread plating or no tread plating?

I'm close to pulling the trigger on some sliders. I've decided on Bud Built standard bump-outs. I'd like to hear from those who have them and what they think about tread plating or no tread plating.

Mud collectors. I like the kick out for reaching the roof. Haven't slipped off of a normal slider yet. I'm in so cal though where we have stretches of no rain of 240 days.

At the risk of being called "Captain Obvious" I suppose it depends on if you really relish the idea of using the sliders as step or not. I'm in the market for sliders too and am contemplating the same thing.

Pro's - adds a bit more utility to the slider in that you can use it more comfortably as a step. And, some would say it looks better - a little cleaner.

Con's - adds weight (10lbs or so for full plating I think), makes it harder to clean (i.e., mud collector as [MENTION=138181]GzTEP[/MENTION] mentioned), more expensive

I am leaning towards no plating (to avoid all the con's mentioned) as I doubt I'd actually use it as a step that frequently, and, I think the round tubing would be fine to stand on in the occasions I need to.

I also agree that they will be harder to clean and possibly more likely to rust due to moisture getting stuck where there plating meets the tube.
I do intend to use the slide as a step on a regular basis, so it's good to hear that you haven't had any problems with slipping on the bare tubing.

I haven't got mine yet, but I ordered them with full tread plating. My main reason for getting them is to provide a step for my wife. I chose sliders instead of just plain steps, because I want something that won't get smashed or torn off when I'm off-road.

I have the full plating on my Buds. The weight difference isn't worth factoring. Visually they look like running boards and rear passengers won't think twice about using them (I've got the beefy bump out model), however, I wouldn't get the plating again. Sliders make great lift points for Hi-Lift Jacks and having an open slider is essential for attaching the jack with something like a soft shackle. I would also say the plating keeps mud off of the body.

I didn't think about either of those points. Both great things to think about.

My vote is for full plating. they are not that hard to keep clean and if you have or plan to have a family, they will appreciate it.

Anyone ever thought of just putting deck (the style made for stairs not skate boards) grip tape on the metal tube? Holds up pretty well and if it wears out you can just replace it

Great point. I'll be getting sliders soon too, had the same dilemma, and think this single point may have changed me to leaning towards no plating.

I have never used a Hi Lift so excuse my ignorance, but wouldn't something like this http://lotusdevelopmentllc.mybigcommerce.com/lift-jack-rock-slider-adapter/ allow you to safely lift with sliders? Or is the soft shackle something you prefer for other reasons?
