Question about the bug deflectors. How to they mount? Is it in an inconspicuous place? One of the reasons I never got one was I thought they had mounts that wore into the painted surface. I've seen this on other vehicles.

Wraps around the lip of the hood and plastic screws or clips hold it in place from the underside of the hood lip.
Typically, over time the rubber nubs that are supposed to prevent the deflector from scratching your hood will actually be the cause of wear marks.
Also, if you happen to park your rig under a tree or in a wooded area, pine needles and twigs and leaves sometimes end up lodged in there and accumulate over time if you don't periodically remove the deflector to clean it it out. Unchecked, that can eventually accelerate the deterioration of the hood.
My T4R came with the original OEM one when I bought ity from the previous owner. It had a small crack on one edge, so I chose to remove it. I was gonna repair it, paint it and put it back on, but aside froma few spots where the deflector damaged the paint on the hood, the hood itself was in decent enough shape that I didn't feel the need to re-install the deflector. I got used to the look without it (you can still see it in my current avatar).
I'm really neither for, nor against the bug deflector on a T4R. I think it looks good with or without. I feel like the pros of having one don't outweigh the cons and vice versa without.
I think I've had a bug deflector on half the cars I've owned and ever single one of them scratched and damaged the hood over time. So you either have to live with the damage from having the deflector or live with the damaged caused by not having one. 6 of one, half a dozen of the other, really.

Below is a link to the one I purchased, it appears to be factory and has the Toyota name printed on the corner. Deflector also came with a nifty paper cutout to ensure the bump stops are evenly placed across the front of the hood.

After about 10 years the little rubber bump stops came off my hood & I didn't notice for a while. At highway speeds the deflector did rub on my hood. I ended up switching to a sport hood so no big deal but it did bother me a lot at the time. Now I have the bump stops attached to the inside of the deflector where I can see them while driving. The deflector will only bend & touch the hood when it gets old. My new one, 4 years old now, doesn't touch the hood at highway speeds. I go through the car wash with it too. If you're letting leaves & twigs fill up in there you're not taking care of your vehicle.

hey man! did you get yours already? I'm seeing in the comments the one I posted does not wrap around the corners at the front. Still looks pretty cool though, kinda give is a more simple/aggressive look.
Post a picture if you can once you get it!

The front of my 4runner (hood and bumper) were rock-pitted to hell from the PO
for me a bugshield will keep further damage from occurring while covering up the rick-chipped hood.
Hopefully it also deflects rocks and bugs from hitting my hood and windshield.

Awesome! I am now undecided between the short one and the wrap around one. The wrap around will obviously protect more but after looking at some pics only the short one looks more sporty
post pics when you get it man! I'm getting mines next week. You got yours from Amazon too?

yes I've heard they really do work for bugs and stones and any other crap that might otherwise end up on your windshield. just guessing that the faster you go the better they work! Time will tell. I like how they look and they're really inexpensive. I'm now thinking about buying the sunroof air deflector but I don't know that they have any real function.
