Bug Deflector

ok i know this is a old thread and im a new member here but I just put on a hood protector OEM from toyota. well the dealership put it on and when I went to inspect it they did not put protective strips on the outer clips. So when I noticed I went back and they put them on. I drove for 3 hours or so without them. Am I being paranoid in thinking this may have caused damage to my paint? Im going to check it out tomorrow, will have to take it off to see.

After reading about the issues you guys have had Im thinking this may not have been a good idea to get one. Its too late to return and I already spent money on the install so is it really that bad of a product?

I dont want to scratch up and damage my car. Im already pissed the dealership did not do the install properly and I had to find out myself 3 hours after.

I don't have the OEM one so can't comment on that but did you contact the dealership to double check with them? If they did something wrong then they'd be liable for any resulting damages.

ya i called them back to install the rest of the tapes. they did but i did not get to look under the clips to see if caused any damage.
 
ok so now I got a problem. After the dealer installed it yesterday I went to take an inspection and tried to take off the deflector and i got all but 1 screw out. Its one of the plastic screws on the top center that will not come out. It seems like its stripped threads or something. on the plastic screw or something it just turms and doesnt stop. Also some of the other screw positions just keep spinning when you try and tighten it. is this normal? this seems like very cheap quality. I looked at the tape under and noticed the clamp is digging in but for now the strips seem to do its job. I am kinda worried cause after driving and vibrations it will go through. Is it too late to return this and get some of my money back, Im in Canada and the receipt says no returns and if it is, it has to be original package. plus they charge restock fee.

Help please.

BigBlue, Did you paint our valance and mid bar or coat it? I'm looking to do something similar and concerned the paint will chip and reveal the original silver.

I put the AVS bugflector 2 on my 2017........warning.... screws will damage covers on core support and worse.....chip off the paint on your grill top......after only 1 month on vehicle. Had to remove for toyo rep inspecting my funky hood paint.

Anyone else have the same paint damage as Spridget?

I'm a new and proud 4RNR owner and I just bought an AVS bugflector II before seeing this thread. Has anyone else had the same type of paint damage as Spridget, or is that an outlier?

Would really like to know before I put the shield on before weekend road trip.... thanks!
 
I have OEM off of my 2014 for sale. I am located in Plainfield, IL. I don't have a box, so its hard for me to ship.
 
i have a 2018 t4r and i just received the avs deflector ii #25053 off amazon and noticed on the box it has a sticker that said its for 4runner 2010-2018. tried installing it last night and my hood wont close. it keeps hittin the top of the grill. tried to lightly slam it a few times, adjusting the deflector forward and back and still no go. not sure if i got a defective one but its going back. i did noticed the under side is stamped 25053 on one end and the other end is stamped 23071.
 
I too tried the AVS bugflector 2, and had the same problem.
I Contacted the manufacturer and they sent me three different units and they all contacted the top of the grill and the screws made contact with the cover on the core support.
I ended up giving all three away to a friend. I told him the whole story, and said if you don't use any throw them in the trash. Guess where they are now.
Toyota hood shield does not contact the hood.
I used a clear plastic door edge guard that I bought from O'Reillys.
Cut door edge guard to fit the brackets that go around edge of hood, and applied to the edge of hood where the brackets go.
Factory Toyota hood shield is very solid when mounted this way.

I had the same issue on my 2016. The bug guard contacted the top of the grill. I simply adjusted the hood stops and they left enough clearance. No problems now

Yeah tried adjusting the hood stops and got it to where only the drivers side was contacting the grille surround which was still too much for me.

Am going to try the oem deflector, per coaltrains recommendation. Only cause bugs are so bad here in central Florida and like protecting the paint on the hood.
 
Rather than the horrible deflectors that stand up off the hood, why not something like this?

is that the stick on one '16SR5? Not too crazy about that, might as well just get a clear bra then and be done with it.
