Build Thread - 2005 V8 Limited

Snuck in a trip up Medano Pass in the Great Sand Dunes National Park yesterday while driving back from New Mexico. Had a blast, we saw elk, pronghorn antelope, deer, bison and big horn sheep.

On another note, I picked up a full set of aluminum RCI skids, and had them powder coated. I've broke off old bolts in the frame on every step of the process. Toytec helped me get a few out that broke off when I removed the OEM skids. Then I broke 3/4 off in the frame taking out the bolts off that connect the frame support tubes to the t-case crossmember. I have 2/4 skids on at the moment. Hoping to get that finished up as soon as I get these bolts out.

Here's a few snaps from the Dunes.

Last week I was sitting at work and heard/felt a huge explosion. All the windows in my building blew out around me. The apartment building across the street was leveled due to a natural gas explosion. We're hearing it may have been done intentionally. It made national news and my truck was all over the footage. The 4Runner was sitting in the parking lot and took the concussion from the blast head on. I'm waiting on an inspection from insurance. Pretty bummed, there's paint damage, a new dent, doors are bent from the pressure, sunroof blew out, glass embedded in the paint and windows etc...shoot.

holy crap man.. thats crazy.. looking at the pictures i see no reason a few things cant be straightened out on the runner to be as good as it was. maybe time to start sourcing ballistic panels

Wow. My condolences- just goes to show that you never know what's going to happen each day... Could have been worse- at least it's still driveable! At least now you can say your runner is an explosion survivor.

Hah! Ya, I'm just hoping for the best. As long as the doors can be straightened out and the sunroof sealed back up I'll be happy. I'm not too worried about the paint. The car next to mine was quoted at 10k in damage from State Farm. I'm just a little nervous because my claim agent has already mentioned the words total loss over the phone. I told her she's not allowed to do that to me. Fingers crossed!

Thank you, definitely could have been worse. At least I'm not one of the people in the hospital. Ya, it's got quite the story to tell now.

Hammered in pinch welds, pushed back front fender liners, trimmed fenders and liners, IF body mount chop. Hopefully no more rubbing. #fingerscrossedemoji

I just put 285/70/17 on my stock wheels and they rub on my UCA's. Did you replace your UCA's or have any issues with your tires rubbing on them?

Edit: Should read better, I saw on your build list you upgraded your UCA's. :ybrick:

My truck ended up getting totaled by insurance. Bought it back, and have it back on the road.

RCI sliders should be done this week, and SRQ is making some dual projectors for me. Headlight seals blew during the explosion so had an excuse to upgrade.

James Peak Wilderness yesterday.

New RCI sliders, and a trip to Rainbow Falls, CO. Also recently added an ARB dual compressor on a Rago Fab mount under the hood.

Replaced the front crossmember last weekend with a buddy. Put in a diff breather recently and adjusted the front coils up another 1.25". Have some new dual projector headlights I need to wire in, and an ARB real locker that I'll need some help with. Getting anxious to get back out now that the snow is melting.

Last couple weekends out, snow is melting here in CO! These 2 are pretty mellow, but it was good to get out and stretch.

It's been awhile, but finally have the Doug Thorley long tubes installed with the y-pipe & Gibson cat-back. Sounding great, got rid of the exhaust manifold tick. Sounds mean and I can feel the gains. Rebuilt the coilovers, ball joints & u joints replaced, & recharged the a/c. Nice and cold again, & running great.

Excited to get back to the mountains this weekend. Planning to hit Red Cone Pass Saturday for the 4th.

Ran up Red Cone pass over the weekend with some friends. Sent it a little too hard over some whoops and smashed/cracked my front RCI skid. I guess that's what it's there for. Loving the extra gains from the headers!

Love the rig! I need to replace my cross member as well. Has a "beautiful" rust hole on the passenger side.

Once spring/Summer comes around again, we should hit some trails!

Down man! Itching to get out there. Getting the truck ready for spring. Exhaust leak came back recently. Need to get that sorted out and get a new set of shoes.
