Build Thread Section Suggestion

First off, sincere respect and genuine love for Greg (1E). He is the type of mod we have needed for a long time.

Now, on to the 5th Gen Build and Adventure Threads section. Hate it! I don’t want to get into the over argued Search discussion. Yes, everybody should search but I think the build section could be much better and useful. Right now, its separated by Year and Color which I think may be the most useless criteria, especially Color.

My suggestion is this: everybody should have a table of content of the mods they have done. It can be a simple list (like mine) or a hot linked list like Antman. And that summery should be listed under the Year / Color heading so members can scroll down to see if there is anything that may interest them within a particular build thread.

Obviously not everybody will have such a long list but I think it would be more useful for somebody scrolling through looking for how different members installed their Cobra 75 CB, for example. Or better yet, give them ideas that they did not even think of. Rear Bumper Cupholders!?! What??? Need to check that out!

I don’t know how practical this format may be to do and maintain or even if others would agree with me, but I thought I would toss it out there for consideration and ridicule.

Agreed; I'm much more interested to see what other LE models have done than what other MGMs or 2016s have done, although that still matters. I appreciate the work that's been put into the list, but it could certainly be improved.

Right. But keep in mind that about 90% (made that number up but its high) of mods done to any of our trucks can be done to others of different years / trim levels. Sure some body mods may be only for 5.5 Gen, some would only be for Limited, etc. but you know what I mean.

I think another thing that could help this is members policing their own build threads.

Example: I used Jeff's as an example to do my own, and created links to everything I had done of the first page of my thread... this makes it easier for someone looking for something specific to skip all the dog posts (lol) and the Cove pictures to get the information they are looking for on a particular mod.

Also... not all members come on here regularly, and some members with really good input/mods/pictures are no longer part of the forum or no longer have a 4Runner. So this could make the above, difficult. However... I think in moving forward... a requirement for adding your "build thread" to the list could be to have each member link each mod to the correct page of their thread that discusses that mod. It's not difficult and quite easy to figure out. The rest of the pages could just be considered "Adventure" threads vice actual builds.

The problem becomes when your name is Jeff..... and your build thread is a bajillion pages long. But alas... his is linked. I think his thread is probably the most comprehensive one on here. I've not seen anyone else put quite as much detail into their thread as he has. This brings us back to the folks that have trouble searching.... sigh....

I agree with Dave- I hate the build thread page. It's sometimes even confusing to get on my own thread, lol. I know he put a lot of effort into it though so I just let it ride.

I would be willing to make a tutorial, if you will, that shows folks how to make hyperlinks easily for their thread. Sp8ball taught me how to do it, and I have walked quite a few members through it as well.

His thread would be much more manageable without so many quoting tons of pictures for no good reason. But at the end of the day his build thread is more of a NY / MD love story which gives up all hope that no matter how bleak life may be, Disgusting Dirty Love Conquers All.
