Before I start, sorry if this subject has been beaten to death already, but I need some advice. I'm really wanting to get the Toyota skid plate for appearance purposes only, but a co-worker told me I should just go with a skid plate and bull bar combo. So I started looking around, and I really like this Westin one... http://www.westinautomotive.com/hires/ko/KOBB501W.jpg

I found that one for $305, I don't know if I could find like an off brand cheaper that looks like that or not, but I like the contrast with the black and chrome.

I was also wondering if just an all chrome one would look good with the chrome grill and door handles.

One more question, I was wondering if someone could post some pics of the side profile of their truck with one of these on. I'm not sure if this thing will look good on a full stock 4Runner.

I am looking for one also. I have the Toyota skid plate on my truck and don't need the Westin but among all the ones I have seen the Westin is the best for the price. If you plan to add lights be sure that they can be recessed and not the first thing that another driver would back up into. A safari bar also may be an option for you. lighter and less expensive.

That safari bar looks alright, I'd be kinda interested to see how it looks on a 4Runner in a legit picture, not an advertisement pic
 
Ok, I think I'm pretty much set on the Safari Bar. I like how it's not overly huge, esp since I really don't plan on lifting my car anytime soon. So with that out of the way, what is included in this "mounting kit" they say is necessary? And another question, what kind of fog lights should I put on there? I really don't wanna spend THAT much money on that part.

but to me having your lights squared up front invites breakage. how many times does our front bumper get dinged and we don't even know about it. I don't plan to mount on the bar for that reason. That said the link above should give you an idea or two and also some information on mounting. If you want an interior switch there are some members here who have done that as well. If you want value go with Hellas, if you want length of throw and superior quality go with PIAA and if you want the best go with Light Force (the debate rages). If you are in a city drop by the local truck mod shop and they can help you plan and choose. You will spend between $400 and $800 getting this done depending on lights chosen and if you can do the work yourself. Have fun =)
 
I really only wanted to buy one for looks. I wanted to set my car apart from all the others I see here in North-Eastern Ohio; and aside from rims, I thought this was a good idea.... it's just too damn cold to put it on!

got ya. It seems like most bolt on with a few bolts anyways, not strong enough for anything over Hella lights.

So FORM, not FUNCTION?
 
Ya, basically.... I'm sure there's one that is for function as well, other than using it a light bar, I just haven't looked into that aspect at all.

That's actually not a horrible looking bar. Kinda looks like a Jaos bar. Only thing is, I don't plan on lifting my truck anytime in the near future, so I'm not sure if that would look right.

Might not be cheaper if you get into a fender bender and the bull bar transfers the energy into the frame of the truck, instead of letting the bumper take the damage (as it is designed to do).
 
Got the bar and put it on. At first I thought it was gonna have to grow on me... the nasty dirty truck I had and the really clean black bar didn't go so well. But after the recent snow storm, they evened out, and I'm in love w/ the look of it! I'll post pics this weekend as it's supposed to get to 50 degrees.
