buying 99 4runner trans questions

Hello, I am new to the board and have a few questions. Ready to purchase a 99 4runner in excellent condition, all service records, no accidents and overall very good. About a year ago seller had a rad failure, the dreaded coolant into the trans, said it was flushed, but I am weary of the trans failing. Are my fears legit or did the flushing save the trans or is it just a matter of time before it will pack it in. Any insight would be appreciated before I pull the trigger on this purchase. Thank You.

if it was me I wouldn't buy it or I would demmand $1500 off the price. But then again I have not searched for one in years so I am not familiar with the market.

the general consensus from what I have read is that the tranny will fail within 15,000 miles of a pink milk shake depending on many factors. sometimes sooner. sellers often know this but if the guy told you then he is probably honest since he could have covered it up.

IMHO, walk away from this deal unless you can find another 99/2000 trans in a local yard or plan to sink $2000 into rebuilding the one in the 4runner. It will fail in time. The clutch packs just don't do well in antifreeze.

well you could always talk him down $2000 and put the cash into a bond or something.
