buying a cat from rockauto any reason not to go cheap

Interesting enough Im posting on top of a cat delete thread. Either way my cat rusted out, nice exhaust leak and my engine has throw a rear 02 code. My gas millage has gone to shit so I want to fix this quick. I'm planning to get a new cat assembly and both new 02 sensors. With the calls i've made and shopping online I'm seeing a huge price swing for a cat assembly. Is there any reason not buy the cheapest one on rockauto? Thank goddness I don't live in cali.

I bought a cheap Walker ones off Amazon. Fit fine but after maybe 1000 miles, its started to rattle like crazy. I'm thinking about making a test pipe setup and running without one again. The rattle is really annoying.

We purchased a high-flow cat off of eBay which was not expensive. It has passed Arizona air quality and OBD testing for several years since then. Yet, testing parameters in your area; could dictate a visual inspection which could raise issues. A quick call could resolve your concern regarding passing emissions. As far as performance, the high-flow cat has worked flawlessly.

^ did you purchase a hi flow cat that came with the piping/02 sensor mount or just a cat that you welded in? My exhaust is rusted to shit so I'm only looking at cat's that come as an assembly. What I didn't want was one that started to fall apart/reduce flow quickly like the walker, seems like the bosal would be a good choice for 20 bucks more. I appreciate the response's, cheers.

The only problem I've heard of with aftermarket cats is that they contain less platinum than toyota uses. This simply leads to less life for the cat.

I had mine stolen and fought with the insurance company about getting them to pay for a toyota cat because of that info.

If I had to replace it out of my pocket, I would go cheap as OEM cats are a friggin fortune! I could probably replace a few aftermarket cats with what an OEM one costs...

I bought one from Rock auto and it showed up really poorly packaged and completely mangled. Sent it back and went elswhere.

I would recommend NOT replacing with expensive Toyota OEM...it is guaranteed to be stolen again! Cheap cats are not stolen because they have less platinum in them.
