Buying a used T4R...Need Suggestions!

Hello ladies and Gents. I am looking at buying one of two 4runners. One is a Silver 2007 runner V8 limited with 95k one owner great condition. Or the other is a white 2006 runner V8 sport ed with 74k on it with one owner great condition.

The obvious difference is the miles and I am not really swayed by the scoop or color. Either way I am going to lift them and put bigger tires and among other things. Just looking for a little direction and thought on the two vehicles.

I know the engine is a beast for sure. I test drove a '06 sequoia with the 4.7 in it and it moved that big bertha around like nothing.

I tend to like the look of the Sport better and I'm not nuts about Toyota's leather. I say Sport but your gut will tell you.

Also, silver hides dirt better than white if you are not one that washes your truck often.

Either way, you have a good problem.....neither is a bad choice. You'll be happy either way.

Both of them are going to need the timing belt changed, the 94k one sooner than later. I personally would go with the cloth seats as Toyota leather tends to crack and tear with age.

I'm owning 2007 runner V8 so my vote is for 07) I also got it with 92,000 mileage but it was not just used car but a salvage one (got it from auto auction here) I was short of funds that's why I bought it, of course I had to repair the car but all in all I'm satisfied, it's a good and reliable auto.
 
I don't know how to tell you which truck is the better truck that will not have problems. If I could do it over again I think I would have gotten a limited with a sport scoop...I like my sport non functional scoop...does the limited have heated seats....

But based on you wanting to lift it, put bigger tires, and "other things" ......

The sport will have Xreas suspension. Only lift for it is a spacer lift or a careful coil lift, one wrong move which makes a leak, and the xreas shocks are toast. The limited may or may not have that option installed, but you don't mention it.

If somehow the Xreas option on a sport makes it much more expensive than a regular SR5, and you will remove it to install a lift it is a waste. The Xreas is in large part what makes the SE an SE.

If the "other things" you will do to it include a bumper and winch, you will need some heavier duty coils like OME to support the weight and I think you will need to pair those up with longer shocks, so once again the xreas needs to be removed.

On a Xreas equiped truck, I don't think there were many rock sliders that fit around the cylinders on the frame. So even if you just disconnect the piping for the xreas, you might need to go the distance and take down the canister. That being said, none of this is extraordinary work if you can operate a metric wrench.....dam pesky rest of the world and our metric system.
 
i bought an 03 Limited with Xreas and 94k miles. They had an 05 sport there at the time that was a little cheaper but it had the 6. Im so happy with my Limited. basically loaded up on options. The leather is nice but i think im already somewhat tearing it getting in/out. Im a little mad about that but nothing i can do.

I lifted mine with the spacer lift, the struts look like they have a small leak so ill be fully replacing the system soon with new struts. You can always add a sport hood.

Go for the Limited.
 
Yes, tell us more about what you plan for it. Also some more details about each. When I bought my newest 4R I had a check list I went through with a flashlight and notepad for objectivity. In the end, my current is the best one yet.
 
It really comes down to leather and memory seats. I wish I had memory seats. I didn't need leather at the time so I have a sport. Both have the same running gear. Xreas is overrated, but don't think it's any tougher to lift the truck- each shock has a disconnect for the xreas plumbing, so it's a non-issue. Unless by "lift" you mean a cheesy spacer kit....
 
I would go with the limited b/c I can't tell how much more I enjoy the leather and heated seats than the cloth in my previous SR5.
