Buying soon - couple questions on warranty/financing

These quick questions are probably answered elsewhere but didnt see in my search so sorry if I am missing them.

For the services covered under the standard warranties, can you get them for free at the dealer near you if you buy from another dealer far away?

Also, I see BOA has 3 percent financing, which I am pretty sure will beat the dealer. If I get approved through BOA direct, how does it work when buying? Do you just go in with the approval paperwork and the dealer then contacts the bank and they work out the details from there, same as if they had contacted the bank themselves?

I am not too sure about the warranty being purchases elsewhere, but I am sure you could call and ask - just remember, you can negotiate on the price pretty well with it, I think 125,000/8 years was $1,500 and 100,000/7 years was $1,200 or something like that when I sat down at the table.

For the financing - you will essentially sit down and say you are securing your own financing through the bank and will bring a check (from the bank) to pay off the remaining amount - they will typically give you 2-3 days to take care of all it and bring the check in to pay it off (that is what they did for me). I did talk to the bank before hand and they told me it was a 1 day turnaround after all the paperwork went through, so you may want to just think of that ahead of time.

You can buy the Toyota Care Extended Warranty from any dealer and get your Toyota repaired under that warranty from another dealer. The dealers charge Toyota against that Warranty Policy to be reimbursed, so they will be glad for the work. It is really referred to as a mechanical breakdown insurance policy or something very similar. My recommendation is to email Jerry Johnson at [email protected] and ask him for a quote. Below were his quotes for a 2011 T4R a week ago. These are for a zero deductible policy.

My dealer matched it.

Also, I got a loan approved from my local Credit Union for 2.99% and the dealer matched it. However, I wanted them to beat it and they gave me 2.60%, and that from Toyota Motors Credit. So, get your loans approved before you go to the dealer, and ask him to beat it. You will come out better off, I believe.

You can talk to your bank's loan officer handling your case and he/she will give you the details. You get yourself approved and they will give you either a check with an upset limit and you will fill the exact amount up, or they will give you a letter that you bring to the dealer. The loan is then closed in the bank office.

Remember, if you have to buy anything, get quotes from other dealers/banks etc before you go in to finalize the deal. You will end up getting a better deal from the dealer you a buying from.

Definitely makes sense to go in with a approved rate and have them beat it. That's interest if they are losing if they dont match.

As far as warranty, I was speaking more to the stuff covered under the normal basic warranty (not a purchased extended warranty).

Not sure if I'll buy an extended, but will definitely look into this dealer if I do, I know you have through the basic to purchase.

I purchased my 4R in a different state, about 250 miles away and it is my understanding that no matter where you purchase the vehicle, the warranty is good at any dealership. The basic warranty that comes standard with your purchase is included from Toyota, so I don't see how any dealership can refuse to service your vehicle. (Unless they are upset that you didn't buy from them initially - and I still don't see how they can refuse)

I also know that my Mom purchased her new Avalon at the same dealer I did and we have a dealer 3 miles from home, but we get better deals at the place we purchased. Long story short, they still honor her 2yr/25K mile maintenance plan at our local dealer. I see no reason why the warranty should be any different. Hope this helps.

I prepaid my service and that has been the best thing I've ever done. I highly encourage that! It is really nice pulling in for regular schedule service and not have to pay anything out of pocket. And when Toyota changed the oil change intervals to 10k, they bumped me up to the platinum plan so free service for 5 years unlimited mileage!
