C4 Fab 4Runner Ladder Prototype

I don't care for all the bolts and nooks and crannies of the Prinsu rack so it's no surprise that I don't care for this ladder either, for the same reason. All those flat plates bolted together invite water, road grime and dirt to get in between. Eventually all of these bolted roof racks and ladders will have a dirty dinge at the connections that is hard and unlikely to get cleaned. The backs of these SUVs have a wind vortex that draws fine dust onto the back tailgate. That dust will get all over this ladder.

I like all of the other C4 products. But I like the simplicity of the Baja Rack ladder or the Gobi ladder. Water can't get inside. Dirt and road grime won't collect and it's easy to clean.

You're driving a rig built purposely to offroad and get covered in mud and dirt and you're worried about dust getting on the ladder via a "wind vortex"...lol?

If this will clear my Front Runner rack I’m sure it will be on my rig before year end.

I stay out of the mud if I can help it, but there's lots of dust here.

Yea, I can wash my truck but I'm not interested in a bolted together ladder or roof rack. My flat utility roof rack from Baja Racks is very functional, easy to load lumber and other big supplies on top when I'm doing home projects and best of all, it's very easy to clean.

I want to spend my time exploring (or working on home projects), not cleaning my erector set accessories.

I'll just keep using my sliders and tires. There isn't anything I can't reach from there. Seems like more effort to even get up on a ladder like this, unless you weren't lifted at all. I suppose if you needed to send the kids after something...... nah, not even then. However, after saying all that, if your gonna buy one- C4 is the way to go. I think this one is better looking than the others. It looks like the only piece that bolts together is the top piece. Perhaps allows for some adjustability to account for differences in rear bumper height.

Is there any update on this project?

It would match the style and design of my Prinsu rack perfectly. Especially if it were aluminum!

Hey Everyone, we have spent some time changing designs and styles of this ladder a couple times and we have come up with our final prototype. We are currently working on nailing down final pricing for the complete ladder and what lead times for parts from the laser company may be. We hope to put this ladder into production soon!

The ladder itself has now been changed to be made 100% aluminum with stainless hardware. The mounting plates that attach to the hatch will still be made from steel because we need the strength steel can provide in 11ga material.

There will be multiple bolt on attachments that utilize the slotted holes in the sides of the ladder for attachment points. We are still working on all of those accessories, but some that we will offer will be extra side steps to bolt onto the side, a hinged load panel that RotoPax or traction aid panels can attach to, shovel mounts, possibly Water Port and propane tank mounts as well.

We are hoping to offer these fully powder coated and ready to install. Basic assembly will be required before the ladder goes onto the 4runner. The fact that frame of the ladder bolts together allows us to fit everything into a much smaller package which will keep shipping costs down.

Judging by interest in this thread as people discuss the new version, we may possibly start with a production run of 100 ladders off the bat. Production and powder coat lead time will most likely be around 3-4 weeks once we place an order for laser parts so lead times wont be too bad and soon after we get all parts powder coated, we should have some in stock and ready to ship for a while.

So far we have verified that the ladder will fit with FrontRunner roof racks and CBI rear swing outs.

Here are a few photos that we have now, give us your thoughts and input!

Nice! Does the ladder get in the way of the backup camera?
The ladder should not affect the back up camera.

Had to rotate the images.
Thank you! Not sure why they rotated when i posted them.

Where/how can I put down a deposit? I would like to be one of the first 100 to receive it, thank you! You can PM me.
We are not taking deposits or pre-orders right now. We are still finalizing pricing and production timelines.

I really like the look of the of the ladder and think the style would mesh well with my prinsu roof rack. I would like to know what the weight of it is and if there is an upgraded lift strut that would work well with it before I would order one though. Having shovel mounts and maxtrax mounts would be a huge bonus. Hopefully all would be available before my yearly off grid fishing trip in June where I know I would be putting it to use.

Heck yes. Being that this is the only aluminum ladder option (from what I have seen anyway), this is a definite purchase for me! No rust, light weight, matching style with Prinsu...win win win! Cant wait to see the final production run with powder coat!

Keep us in the loop guys!
