I am trying to do a tundra upgrade on my 1999 4runner. I bought the callahan set on amazon. As I went to bleed the system, the front left leaked. Evidently I didn't get the brake line threaded in properly. I backed it out and the threads seem slightly rounded. Hopefully salvagable. So I'm thinking I should gently try to clean up the male end, and gently run a tap into the caliper. Is this a good idea? What is the thread? It would appear the caliper is 3/8 x 24. But I would expect the Toyota to be metric. I am assuming that since the kit said it was for a Tundra that one wouldn't be metric and the other SAE. Maybe the caliper is 10mm. Help! thanks. Rick

I answered my own question. It is 10mm. 1.0.
I bought a 10mm 1.0 bolt and nut and used a file to make my own primtative tap/die, but when I ran it into/over the parts, it surprised that both the male and female parts were pretty smooth. I put it back together and it still leaked. So then I pulled the new caliper and it appears that down in the bottom of the caliper hole there is a brass (?) nipple-like piece which seems a tad crushed. So maybe that is where the leak is. But the toyota caliper that I removed had a flat bottom in the hole in the caliper - no nipple.
Had to call it quits for darkness. Odd. The other caliper isn't leaking. Long frustrating day.

how bout some teflon tape
took it to a mechanic. He felt like maybe I needed to tighten it further. Didn't work. Called Callahan today. They immediately offered to send another caliper. I was impressed. Hopefully it shows up and the return goes well. Stay tuned. I am, however, stuck without my 4runner for a few days.

All aftermarket calipers are reman'd so there's always a chance for something to be out of line or broken. The new one should work fine, the odds of getting 2 in a row bad would be pretty slim!
