calling all past Tundra owners!

I was suppose to purchase a 2014 premium SR5 at the end of next month. I went to the dealer last night and drove a new tundra. Use to own one and it wasmy pride and joy. Absolutely loved it. Test driving the new tundra made me miss it even more.

My question to you guys is, why did you gget rid of the truck? Do you have more fun driving the runner? Some personal pros and cons? I love both vehicles but know I will love the tundra. I dont need a truck bed at this time of my life although may need one soon. But the 4runner has ample storage room.

I love me a 2nd gen Tundra, those things look beast. But they're huge, and get miserable MPG. I'd never have one as a daily driver.
 
If it wasn't for the MPG's I would own one in place of my '12 TE. If you can handle the gas prices, I say buy it. They look badass, especially the platinum edition.
 
I currently have both, i would say the biggest difference is the power. If i need to pull a trailer or haul something the tundra is the way to go. But if i want to go camping, hiking, mtn biking, off roading the 4runner is more compact and way more fun to drive.
I have a single cab short bed tundra 4x4, that i use as a farm truck basically and it used to be my daily driver, I can't do without it and will keep it for a long time. I think it all just depends what the vehicle is going to be doing on a daily basis, either one will get you from point a to point b.
 
I still own both. My Tundra is SC so it is hard to keep my foot off the gas and at Premium Unleaded only it isn't cheap. Also parking isn't the greatest in the Tundra in midtown Houston. If I had my choice though I would drive the Tundra everyday.
 
We had an 09 limited crew max, fully loaded. We loved it.
But we got rid of it to save money, gas, insurance, and practicality.
 
Had a Tundra and LOVED it.... Wasnt practical for road trips so I got the 4runner... LOVE the 4runner.... but I do miss having a truck. I bought a 5x8 utility trailer for when I need to haul things
 
Guess I'm going to have to stick with the runner. I drive 30 miles one way to work. I am gonna miss the beast. May just have to supercharge the runner ;-)
 
I seem to be the only one on here who owned a 4.6L V8 Tundra. Mine was a 2011 Crew Max TSS Edition. My main reason for trading it in on the 4R was for that literally 1% of the time that I actually need 4wd to get to my work locations (oil rigs). I almost stuck the Tundra 3 times over the 2 1/2 years I owned it. The only thing that saved my bacon was that very useful electronic traction control (A-TRAC to 4R owners) on the rear brakes and I was still sweating bullets on a couple of those trips. I did use the 4wd on the 4R within 2 weeks of buying it, strangely enough for an ice storm in the San Antonio area.

I'm a big guy (6', 290) so I do occasionally miss the roomier interior of that Crew Max cab, as well as the additional gadget storage in there. But the 4Runner is growing on me every day. It is funner to zip around in Houston or San Antonio traffic and the smaller size and increased maneuverability are a plus for parking. Since my Tundra was the smaller V8 model MPG has been about an even trade. Both get about 20 for me at 60mph, and drop down to mid 17's at the mandated 75mph on almost anything that is not dirt surfaced in Texas.

And no. At the time I bought the Tundra I couldn't afford the 4wd equipped model. If I could have I would probably still be driving it.
 
Tundra... my story

Soooo... I had a 2010 Rock Warrior Crew Max. Black. Good truck,but not a great truck. On the plus side, 381 horsepower. On the downside, terrible fuel economy, overly hard seats, tepid heat and AC, thin sheet metal (you can stare a dent into it!) thin paint and cheesy interior. Plus it is too damn big for most on or off road situations.

The Tundra was a good truck to be sure and mine was special... Katahdin Welding rack (look it up) and lots of electronics, but it was a joke as far as fuel consumption was concerned. I traded it it for a new Audi A4 Turbo Quattro and the fuel savings practically paid for the Audi. Of course, after six months, I gave the Audi to my wife and bought a new 4Runner which you can read about elsewhere on this site.

My brother also has a 2010 Tundra CrewMax (non RW) and I was in his last month. Heres what I noticed: hard seats, inadequate heat and clownish interior. With the exception of the novelty sliding rear seats, I didn't miss it a bit.

My 2013 4R has aftermarket leather, heated seats, Camburg UCAs and Bilstein 5100s. While I never thought I would say it, I actually love a Toyota. If you want more info, PM your cell and I will be happy to talk with you about it. Good luck.
 
Well I JUST traded my '13 Tundra Crew Max PE this past past weekend on a '14 T4R LE. It was a 5.7 4X4 with TRD Dual Exhaust and Cold Air Intake. MPG was HORRIBLE. Lucky to see 11MPG. Of course being lifted with big tires didn't help. It was a great truck, but too big for me in this current season of life. Kids are all gone and mainly just me 99% of the time. I could afford the gas, just got tired of having to fill up 2X a week. 5 days into the 4R, I'm really enjoying it, and have yet to fill up from the free tank of gas the dealer put in! It too will get tons of mods, so the MPG will suffer, but I'm sure no where near the Tundra. Fortunately I have a few trucks from my team members at the office to use if I have need of a truck. Had an '07 5.7, double cab, limited, TRD. Loved it. Traded it in on the '10 Raptor, 6.2, SCAB. The Tundra was quicker and got better gas millage but the Raptor is kooler. Sorry. Love my 'Runner though!
 
Thank you, everyone who posted. Its nice to hear directly from those who have done the switch personally. Looking forward to modding the runner when she comes in!
 
P.S. I have a really nice 5' x 10' utility trailer with sides on it that will haul about 3x more than any shortbed pick up. The 4R pulls it just fine.
 
Here was my 2011, I traded her in straight up for the runner, all monthly payments went down, and apr went down too, mpg is great compared to the tundra.
