Calling Audio Nerds: 15 Speaker JBL System Underwhelms

I hope Im doing this right and please forgive me if im doing it wrong my I bought a toyota 4runner 2010 LE this Feb with the JBl system and until recently it was working just fine. What Ive been noticing over the past few days is that the track control buttons on the steering wheel ( especially to move tracks forward ) actually rewinds and moves the playlist in the opposite direction.
Second Ive noticed that the main display will occasionally freeze up while im using my ipod and when i tap it it resets itself while the song is playing.

Any thoughts ?? Also yall think the extended warranty would cover this? I just reached 40k on this SUV bought it at 34

But have a question - apologize, I'm a 4th Gen owner, and installing for in-laws in their 2010 SR5. Was the JBL available on the SR5? Was Party Mode on both JBL and non-JBL systems? Need to confirm with ordering harnesses. Their 2010 has party mode, and can't recall if headunit and speaker grills were badged with JBL or not. Thanks for the help!

rigtec- thanks. I'd seen that as well, but then looked at the e-brochure Toyota has on the cert pre-owned website, which seemed to indicate the JBL system wasn't even an option on the SR5. I'll see if they can send me some pics of the existing HU and speaker grills this week. Thanks!

Just out of curiosity, what's the new harness, mentioned earlier, for?

New harness is just the conversion kit to integrate with the Toyota steering wheel and head unit plug controls. It's a different kit if hooking into the JBL amp/15-speaker system, which is why was hoping to confirm. thanks!

Focal IS 690TOY for the front doors.

I ordered a set of these since they were vehicle specific. Haven't got around to installing them yet but a buddy has them in his truck and they sound great.

Got everything installed last weekend. Sorry to hijack the post on a non-JBL subject, but very pleased with install on the SR5. A couple before/after picks below. Selected a Kenwood DDX-392. Thanks for all the help! Plus...upgrading myself to a '15 this weekend!

Is it the Focal IS 690TOY? Or Focal IC 690TOY? Crutchfield says it is the IC not the IS that fits 4runners.

I'd love to see that write up as well but I'd prefer just a good write up on plug and play speakers for the entire JBL system including the sub.

I realize this is an old thread, but I don't have the requisite number of posts to make my own...

Anyone have a '16 Taco that can contrast the JBL system in the Limited 4Runner?

I'm trading my '16 Taco in on a 4Runner and leaning towards the JBL again, but local dealers don't have one to test.

having a 2016 SR5 base model as a rental for 2 weeks and contrasting it with my 2015 Limited. I would say the JBL system is 10X better than the base SR5 stereo.

If you are planning on ripping everything out and spending $3k to $5k in top end stereo/headunit/speakers/subs/new wiring I would say you should get the base stereo.

I realize I'm late to the party here ... I just discovered this thread, as I rarely tune in ... but, I have the upgraded JBL in my 2010 4RT and although it sounded pretty good at the start, I did a complete Dynamat cover ... I mean complete ... and the stereo sound improved dramatically and the cabin is now very quiet, too.
