Calling everyone running OME 906 coils

I'll provide a little update for those who care...

I decided to ditch the OME shocks completely. Instead, I went out on a limb and purchase 4 Rancho 9000XL shocks (adjustable), and I did it when Rancho had a promotion to give a free wireless "myride" system with the purchase of four shocks. Technically, the shocks are rated for 0-1" of lift, but since the 906's are really only like 1.75" of lift, I decided to go for it. So far, they have been great. I can adjust the stiffness from inside the cab on the fly, and it is very noticeable. I also have them up front, and you adjust the rear and front independently from each other. It's kind of gimmicky, but kind of cool. If anyone is on the fence, even using the manual adjusters is pretty cool. You can make them firm when you have a load, and soft when there is no load. All this and in the back of my head I still think I should just go with the 60028's nothing can be worse than my stock 170k + suspension.

Yeah I'm running those. Don't get me wrong, it's taken me close to 2 years to come up with that diagnosis, and the difference the new springs and shocks made was night and day compared to my OEM suspension that had 135k on it.
 
I'm just going to keep my 60027s. After running them on the beach this weekend off-road they feel a little more broken in. That may sound strange, but it is what it is I suppose.

I did order the diff-drop and spacers for the front, though. :)
 
econhonda thanks for the update, didn't you say something somewhere about having to fab something to work with the ranchos? Also have you had any experience off road with the ranchos?

kelly yeah I'm thinking that after dealing with the stock suspension for the past half year that anything will be an improvement.

I made a 1/8" spacer for the front driver strut. It turns out that it's not enough to level out the natural lean towards driver side (heavier side). I'll probably put a thicker one in sometime. The offroad performance seems better than the OME to me. I am very impressed, and I love the adjustability. I plan on doing a more detailed writeup about the whole system as soon as I get a free evening. Let me know if you have any questions. Just to clarify, the rear are plug and play (really bad way to put it since the rear shock top mounts are so annoying to get to). No fabrication required. Technically, the front is too. It just depends if you want to do some "trim packing".
 
I have 882/890 for now. and the sport shocks. little stiff, but not bad.
went off roading a little last weekend and it was pretty bumpy. but plan on getting some speed over that gravel rocky road next time. lol and see how that goes.

will be adding some weight once I get my rear bumper and add weight. then I might have to switch to something else as coils go.

all these dam choices. at least when I do the rear I dotn have to get it aligned again.
 
Thanks for the info econhonda those ranchos are sounding better and better, I especially like the adjustability factor. I would probably just buy a trim packer from toytec or something if I do go with these, seems like a lot of people need to use these with all kinds of shocks.

I'm trying to research the best 2 inch lift combo going!

Still confused on a few things....

I think the springs are going to be 880/906 or tundra fronts? apparently they are smoother

The rancho 9000xl shocks

But I'd like to not run a diff drop as earlier posts suggest that it will dry out my front diff...

Also What is a trim packer and what do i have to do to make this combo sit level?? why the heck does our trucks lean on the driver side?
 
Can't answer you with the diff drop as I don't have one... but as for the trim packer I believe it is just a ring that sits on top of the strut assembly or coil? that does exactly what you said level the truck out. I know the rear coils I have (906's) are different lengths to compensate for the lean don't know why they didn't do it with the 881's.
 
I know this is an Old post, but Im surprised with all the questions on which shocks to use with the OME Coils and ride stiffness that there aren't more people chimming in on using other types of shocks.

I have an option to pick up so barely used rear 906's for a $80 to put on a 2000 2wd Daily Driver Soccer mom 4runner with a really saggy rear.
Im skeptic about the stiffness though and having the rear kicked to high until I can get to the front coil replacement later down the road.

But I was surprised that people were trying the many other cheaper options of shock brands available like Rancho, Procomps, Gabriels, or Monroes.
I know that 4wheel parts wholesaler often has deals on Pro comp shocks, buy 3 get one free.

From my experience of desert truck racing, Bilsteins are a bit on the stiffer side and usually don't come into effect unless traveling at higher speeds while offroading. At the speeds that most of the expedition offroadering or graded fire trails that some people use for camping and what not, that a Rancho or Procomp would be more then adequate. Especially if they go with an adjustable shock.

Question: Will the OME 906 springs work with standard, non-lift shocks? I want to just get the 906 to fix sag without replacing shocks or front anything.

Only problem that needs fixing right now is sag.

Can anyone post up their ground to fender measurements that have 906 coils and 265/75/16s? I'm considering getting 906 coils but would like to know if it will level out my 4Runner with a 1.5" coil spacer in the front.

I have 99 tall springs and stock shocks. I just ordered 906 springs and bilstein tundra 5100 for the rear. Then when I have time and money I'll put tundra trd springs and adjustable 5100 in the front and probably add trim packers in the rear. Then when I have more time I may do the diff drop, extended brake lines, bumpstops, trac bar, and 890 springs.

So I'm slowly copying Speedy's sport runner 2" lift, then if I feel the need turn it in to more like the 3" sonoran steel 7.2.

I can measure mine after work, though I have 10mm trim packers in the rear as well.

This is EXACTLY what I need answering. I want to fix my rear sag too! If this gets answered, someone let me know :P
