Camping Suggestions?

Hey guys, a southern neighbor here looking to do a road trip up north. Want to do some camping in my RTT, now looking for some good places to do it. I'm pretty open to anything, but curious if anyone has some suggestions. Right now I'm thinking Shasta, Tahoe or Lassen area. I'm okay with either full-service sites or primitive.

I always recommend anything on the east side of the Sierra , hwy. 395 . Check out Armstrong Canyon , Mazourka Canyon , Silver Canyon up into the White Mtns. So many trails up in the Mammoth area with hot springs to soak in as well .

What you really need is a trail guidebook, check out the series by Charles Wells. Asking for a camping rec. in all of Nor. Cal. is kind of like asking for a restaurant rec. in NY City , there's just so much to choose from ...

Butte & Plumas county

there are several places to go, tons of trails between the two, good fishing, some places you can still pan for gold, and some secluded campsites like Cleghorn and MIll Sap bar, Poker flat is a good run it the hardest around, outside the Rubicon , several ghost towns and old abandoned mines , here some links

+ 1 on needing a trail guide book (or something like that). I have an old copy of Backcountry Adventures Northern California by Peter Massey that is great (lots of trails plus great info about the history and what not). I also use Sierra Nevada Byways by Tony Huegel. For info on trails you can check out 4x4trailmaps.Com or any of the other similar sites. I also recommend checking out the Fort Service websites for their MVUM and info on camping (Tahoe NF is at Tahoe National Forest - Home).

Not sure if you're still seeking speicifcs, but if you are...

I enjoyed Bowman Lake earlier this summer (39.452774, -120.639593). It was easy to get to in my 4R, but there is no potable water.

I also really love the Big Trees area... one of the few places on earth to see giant sequoias (38.275184, -120.307154) (also check Calaveras Big Trees SP ). You can camp in the park, or there are tons of places around the area to camp/stay. [note, the picture doesnt do them justice...]

Yup. Got a 3 acre bass pond and a creek that has (seasonally) has trout. No catch and release rules on my property!

Lake County, Indian Valley Reservoir

Lake County, Indian Valley Reservoir, South of Clear Lake. Lots of water this time of year. Great for fishing and BLM hunting. No camp sites. "off grid" camping.
