Currently in the market for either an Audi S4 or purchasing a 4Runner. I'm looking at both of these below. I really like the color of the first one, but $32k is a lot of money for a car. Was hoping to put down $6,500.

I know most of you don't like the billet grill, but I'm certainly a fan of it. I would've liked the XP Pro to have leather seats instead of the cloth. I was going to do research to see how difficult of a swap it would be.

honestly... neither. wouldnt buy a 2wd 4runner. if you dont need a 4wd then why bother with an suv--spend the money on something fun like a used c63

What is your purpose for the vehicle? Unless you need a bigger midsize, slightly underpowered, gas guzzling body on frame SUV with an outdated infotainment system and lumbering handling but bulletproof reliability get the 4runner. If you want a smaller, fun to to drive luxury sports sedan with above average reliability get the Audi.

I would not get the 4runner unless you need a Body in frame SUV that will last you 10+ years. Also make sure you take a long test drive before you buy.

Saying that I still love my 4runner. I would not trade it for anything...except maybe a 200 Series LC but that’s a whole other 1000 threads on here.

I've never heard of an "xP" package, but it just looks like a base SR5 with aftermarket rims and a grill. You might as well go buy a brand new SR5 and get full warranty for what, 2 or 3,000 more? (just my opinion).

The Limited is a better buy for the features added. Since both are 2wd, I would assume the luxuries of the Limited would be better appreciated than rims and a grill. Plus, if you're comparing to / considering an Audi... Anyway, both are low mileage, and assuming actual condition of each is equal I would pick the Limited hands down.

I own both ( we’ll own the 4Runner and from the back seats forward on the S4) therefore my vote is both! As far as the 4runners go - as others have said , neither (4x2 - means you have no need for a bof, dated , lumbering monster that is 4Runner) - get the S4 and enjoy it - hell of a ride for the money - toss in a couple grand for stage II tune and smaller snout pulley and you have a quick little machine - the c63 mentioned above is certainly in the next tier of power/speed vs the s4 but you pay for it.

This - just did the DSG filter and oil , just shy of $400 in parts alone , dealer quote was over double. If you DIY these cars are not expensive to own but they are not a Camry either ..... if your paying dealer or high end independent shop prices ...... then the money doesn’t matter to you and I doubt your asking us to decide which 4Runner for you.

That said the b8.5 platform is robust and for what it is I think it’s proven to be a very solid platform - aftermarket support is also top notch but you do pay an “Audi tax” for some of the parts

You will regret that specific 4runner. The 4runner is already a slug. Now add those wheels and tires to it and it'll feel like a dying slug dragging its body over a pile of salt. Ask for the carfax and I guarantee this was an auction vehicle.

But the DSG is so worth it, amazing transmission. You will definitely need s Ross-tech cable and some random specialty tools (or 3D printed ebay knock offs) but once you have those, DIY maintenance isn’t so bad.

they will handle rain the same but the 4x4 will hold it's value better and you'll never regret not having 4x4. neither seem particularly necessary for rain, if that is the only reason you're looking at SUVs I'd personally rather have something more comfortable to drive.

Pics 17 and 21 in the link OP posted for the Limited do not have the 4wd selector knob on the console... I'm pretty sure the Limiteds still have that knob if 4wd, but I could be mistaken.

Great point about the seats. The softex in this TX heat is brutal - my back/butt are always sweating in them. It's the only thing I really want to change about my 4R, add some ventilated seats!

Anything all-wheel drive crossover/mid-size SUV would do you fine in Florida, yes I have driven through that weather quite a few times. You can get two+ dozen models from different manufacturers perfectly adapted to what you want it for, 2x+ better fuel economy, a better suited AC system to your climate, for much less money.

Your money but don't fool yourself into buying something you want based on what you need if that is really why you are buying it.

BTW resale of 2wd 4runners is sh!t. No one wants them you will get hosed on trade-in later in life.

EDIT: just checked that ebay listing... $32k fuq that. also "VARY RARE XP PACKAGE" vary rare? What is that? Does its "rareness" have a varying quality to it? Even ebays market analysis says its high, I bet money that is based on 4wd models too. This cat is a hoser.

If you want something great in the rain...get a Subaru. They symmetrical AWD is better than 2wd in the rain and you'll get about 6-10mpg better even with the V6 version of the Subaru. You won't engage 4wd in the rain down here as its a part time system really dedicated for off-pavement or in very low traction situations. If you want full time 4wd/AWD and the 4runner you have to get a limited. You can get a new Outback or Forester loaded with eyesight tech for the price you'll pay for the used 4runner. The 4runner with good tires is good in the rain, the Subaru with good tires is fantastic...we own both.

If you can't decide between the S4 and 4R, you're not ready to decide packages.

Also, I'd swerve the XP, but some may really like these port installed options.

Agreed. The 4runner is too big and heavy to be your best rain option. Even with superior tires, this 5000lb animal still requires more distance to stop, nose dive like a mofo during braking and swayage like no other in an emergency situation. You want to be safe in a 4runner? Be an overly defensive driver.

Stay away from anything rear wheel drive if your looking for the best rain handling. Get a front wheel drive or AWD with a good set of tires ( tires are they key here, don’t go cheap). If you are worried about floods get an suv/crossover over a sedan.
