Should I Make the Switch Back...?

I agree with this.

It depends if you NEED a truck or if a SUV will do. Is the F150 getting unreliable? I dumped my 2012 F150 back in 2014 because of too many issues with it but I also picked up a light 16' trailer to help replace it that both 4runners can easily pull. If I really needed a truck, I just borrowed my dads truck. It's worked for over 2 years and I haven't really missed having a truck until recently. Now I find myself needing a truck a little more and more so I will probably buy one eventually. 10 years ago there's no way I could've been without a truck.

Yeah my '13 f-150 has already had the rear differential serviced; clutch packs, slinger, along with the driveshaft being worked on. This is with only 47,000 miles. Now since having all that done I have a "fine hum" at highway speeds in the rear, which was never there before. After doing more digging I found the rear differentials in these trucks are prone to many problems. So my pinion and bearing may be going too. Either way, it's becoming a headache for a newer truck with low miles. And the power train warranty only has one more year left so I figured now is the time to dump it while the truck still holds some trade in value.

Yeah, mine had the high pitched hum on the highway but I never had them dig into it. I was too busy trying to get them to figure out why the ecoboost was knocking, smoking, misfiring, and had no power. There were also some electrical gremlins that they couldn't figure out as well. Ford wasn't real interested in investigating why it was doing all of that but instead told me to drive it until it broke then they would fix it. Well, I can't live like that so I traded it. I had 45k on it when I traded for my 2014 4runner.

I'm back to needing a truck and I want to stay with Toyota but I need a little more payload capacity than the tundra offers. Unfortunately, this puts me looking at the 3/4 ton trucks from the big 3. I don't trust Ram and I don't like how the GM's look so that puts me looking a Ford again, just not sure I can trust it.

I'll never purchase another vehicle from a rust-belt state without a very careful inspection, examining the body and undercarriage, suspension bolts, etc.

Personally, I'd rather pay a more for a similar car from the SW - it's worth flying out to pick it up.

Agree. I'm from Florida. No way I'd buy a vehicle from the rust belt.

Maybe if they were giving it away. Even then....

The northerners always bring their vehicles down and try and sell them here. Always rusted to shit. Very few states I'd buy a used car in.

could not agree with you more... my first 4runner I had was from minnesota area, had to get rid of it because the frame split in half from rust. Now i have one from arizona. TOTALLY worth it

Your guys stories regarding your F150's and the fact that I drive a new Explorer for work that is a total POS seals the deal that I would never in my life purchase a Ford vehicle.

I worked at a Ford Dealership and all the guys would give me crap for my "Yota truck" and ask when I was going to get a real truck. I would simply respond when Ford starts building vehicles that require less visits to the dealership for issues/maintenance as compared to just oil changes I will think about it.
And to this day I know several of those guys have since switched out of their Fords as well. haha.

I don't doubt it. We also had a new escape ecoboost added to our fleet vehicles and the thing was in the shop with an oil leak a few months after getting it. The quality of their vehicles is horrendous.

I looked into the timing belt and water pump; according to CarFax the timing belt was "checked" but not replaced... I was going to factor that into my negotiations along with the water pump. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the timing belt on a V8 recommended service around 90k regardless if it "looks good" or not?

Yes it is. IMO I would not pay a dime over $14.5, but try and get it for less.

Exactly my thoughts; I hope they're willing to deal or else I'll have to walk away. I went and looked at it the other day (as did others unfortunately)...nice looking truck. Sharp.. The best part, minimal rust underneath. MUCH better than I would have thought. Very light surface rust in some areas. Surely not as good as your trucks out west, but more than acceptable to me.
