Can new tires cause vibration?

Hey folks,

I finally got my tires replaced earlier this week and due to the crappy economic environment, I decided against the Michelins that the dealer originally had on the 4Runner and went with the Big O Bigfoot tire that was on sale. I had all 4 tires replaced at the stock 265/65-17 size but now when I go above 70 mph, there's a vibration that starts and gets better after you go past 75 mph. Now the guy that did my alignment said that the struts were leaking and needed to be replaced (although I haven't noticed any fluid on my garage floor) so I didn't know if that might cause the vibration or if the new tires just suck. I wouldn't think that new tires would affect the harmonic frequency of the car itself, would they? Anyway, any advice on what to do would be greatly appreciated.

Seems like a tire balance problem. You may want to go to either Discount Tire or Toyota dealership to re-balance your tires.

Yes, almost possitive its a tire balancing issue. Take it back to the installer and have them rebalance them. If you are still having issues you could also try a shop that uses a road force balancing system. It is more expensive but it takes the variations in spring rate of the tire into account as they balance. I doubt you would need that tho unless there is an issue with the tire itself. Usually you dont need that unless it is a very sensitive car (ie my BMW). Good luck

Thanks for the replies. Turns out my front suspension needs some work done. Struts and and axle were leaking. I guess after 100K, these things start to go...
