Can someone diagnose this noise for me? (Audio inside)

I just posted that I’m moving to LA and I’ve had no problems with my vehicle, and bam, this arises.

1998, 5spd 2.7 with 160k miles.

The noise happens in third and especially fourth gear around 45mph. Its coming from the engine as far as I can tell and it’s loud enough to be captured in the attached video. Any ideas? It is happening every time I drive now

Does the noise go away if you push the clutch in while it's doing it or coast in neutral?

It does not. As long as the wheels are spinning, it still makes the noise.

That rules out engine and the input side of the transmission. Does it get louder or faster if you increase vehicle speed?

It goes louder for sure. More speed, more noise

I was afraid folks might say this. Those noises in the video are not normal for my vehicle. That sound like an electric can opener wasn’t there before…

Can you upload a longer video? Maybe going faster but coasting in neutral so the engine will be quieter?

Have you noticed anything that will cause the noise to change besides vehicle speed? Turning or braking maybe?

Check the drive belts. I am leaning power steering pump but could also be the other two.

OP, did you check your wheel bearings for excessive play?

BL is leading OP down the road a great way of isolating and diagnosing a possibility bad wheel bearing. If WB is the source of OP's noise issue.

I recently got all up in my power steering only to find that 50% of my mystery noise was coming from under-lubed u-joints and double cardans. It's worth a couple pumps of moly if you haven't kept up on it. I hadn't and it made a world of difference.....

OP, did you check your wheel bearings for excessive play?

Thanks both. Wheel has excessive play. Going to replace the bearings and will report back if the noise has gone away.
