Can someone explain new NAV options?

Ive been waiting for my dealer to get an allocation approval for two options (electric running boards & new NAV) on a Limited. They got approval for the boards but only with the standard NAV from 2011.

Can someone explain the difference? Dealer says the screen is bigger to 7", voice activated, better speakers, etc so that I can choose to keep the order, give up the 4R or wait until the new NAV becomes standard.

This is the first vehicle I have ever order, first Toy and it's not going very smooth.

The new nav has Entune on it which allows your car to connect to your phone and use apps such as Pandora for music or getting weather information.... There's a bunch of stuff about it if you just google/youtube it.

I am also looking at the ltd. From what I can tell the entune comes standard and won't have the JBL and 15 speakers.

Entune is standard, however, you can UPGRADE to the JBL NAV / w15 speakers. It's an OPTION.


I've got the JBL NAV in my 2010, and I have had no issue with it at all. I love the way it works, the sound is great, and the features are very nice. Even if I purchased today, with Entune availalble, I would still opt for the JBL NAV. The apps on entune are cool, but it still uses your phone's data plan and most of us have a smartphone that already has those apps. For example, If I want pandora, I can stream it wirelessly (via bluetooth) to my JBL NAV head unit and it sounds and works great.

Just do your homework, but entune is standard, JBL 15 is optional upgrade.

So looks like the NV option comes with JBL premium system with navigation, 4-disk in-dash CD changer, 15 speakers and 7-inch monitor.

Dont really care for the disk changer as CD's are old news. The speakers and 7-inch screen is a plus.

So with this option it deletes all features offered with Entune.

Note: through pressroom it states 6 disk vs brochure is 4.

I ordered a 2012 Limited today. I've seen and used both systems. The JBL is nice because of the larger screen but I really liked the interface and features with Entune. I haven't played a CD in years so I def do not need a 4 disc changer. Its a lot of extra $$ for the difference in sound that I could do without. Oh, and you loose the storage space on the right side of the cargo area because they put the subwoofer/amp in there.

Can't wait for mine to come in...they say approx 7-8 weeks?

Storage would be nice to have. So I wonder if for a $1000 or less do an aftermarket speaker upgrade with with amp, maybe a sub and still keep the main unit.

Ill dig around the electronics forum a bit.

My dealer said the same 8-10wks for the Entune but if I want the new NV there is no time frame. From what Ive learned the delaer can order the option every two weeks until it's been approved in their allocation by Toyota. We have been trying for 2 months.

I ordered mine with no 3rd row seat and no cargo tray. Didn't want to pay for stuff I don't want and that takes up more space. The 4Runners seem to lack storage space/compartments like other vehicles. I like those spaces and didn't want to sacrifice it for a subwoofer.
